What are the responsibilities and job description for the Student Advocacy Specialist/Transition Center Coordinator position at Gordon County Schools?
Job Goal: To proactively support student safety and well-being by identifying at-risk students, coordinating appropriate mental health interventions, and ensuring effective implementation and evaluation of behavioral supports. To work closely with students and staff and support curriculum and instructional delivery within the Transition Center.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Coordination of behavioral and mental health interventions
- Provide tiered behavioral health training and support
- Collaboration with school and district level leaders
- Provides support to and collaborates with Social Workers, Counselors, and Student Mental and Behavioral Health Specialist
- Attends training sessions and workshops offered by GEMA/HS, DBHDD, and GADOE
- Collaborates with school safety teams and district BTAM team to integrate behavioral health supports into school safety plans
- Documents and evaluate the outcomes of behavioral health programs and interventions, reporting progress to district leadership and state agencies as required.
- Work with Transition Center students and adapts instruction to meet the needs of students
- Motivate students and relate to students in a positive manner
- Utilize a variety of technology skills to assist students with online learning
- Collaborates with schools to pre-schedule courses for transition students
- Coordinates student arrival and dismissal
- Monitors attendance and academic performance
- Communicates with families/guardians regarding student progress
- Collaborates with Hearing Officer to support students during orientation
- Assists with administration of standardized testing
- Consults and coordinates with sta?, parents, and community resources (including APEX Providers)
- Provide information to students and parents on career awareness and life development
- Develop and implement individual intervention strategies to increase student success and graduation rate
- Work with students and high school sta? to develop a graduation and achievement plan to include the best program to meet academic and post-secondary goals.
- Track the progress of students as they progress toward
- Conduct and analyze on-going formative and summative evaluation data of program e?ectiveness.
- Perform any other duties assigned
- Contract Length: 11 months
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree
Preferred Qualifications: Counseling Degree, five years experience working with at-risk students; middle or high school experience.
