Procurement Manager Requirements & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Food Science, Business, or related field (Master’s preferred)
• 5–8 years of procurement experience, ideally in food manufacturing or CPG
• Deep understanding of food safety standards (HACCP, FSMA, GMP)
• Experience sourcing perishable and commodity-based materials
• Proven negotiation and supplier management background
• Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems and procurement software
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  
  

Procurement Manager Preferred Background & Skills

• Food manufacturing experience
• Experience working with private equity-backed companies
• Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM), Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP), or HACCP Certification
• Knowledge of supplier risk management and traceability
• Commodity market analysis and cost control expertise
• Leadership and team development experience
  
  

Procurement Manager Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Develop and implement procurement strategies for raw materials, packaging, and indirect supplies
• Source and qualify suppliers to maintain high food safety and quality standards
• Negotiate prices, contracts, and agreements to ensure cost efficiency and continuous supply
• Collaborate with Quality Assurance and Regulatory teams to maintain compliance with FDA, USDA, and other standards
• Monitor commodity markets to mitigate supply and pricing risks
• Oversee inventory levels, minimizing waste and stockouts while supporting production targets
• Evaluate and drive supplier performance through ongoing audits and corrective actions
• Maintain accurate procurement documentation, including specifications and traceability records
