Essential Functions

  • Maintains knowledge of industry technological developments to promote department efficiency and support continuous improvement projects.
  • Forecasts, develops, and manages the maintenance budget.
  • Install, maintain, repair, and upgrade equipment, machinery, and processes.
  • Maintain accurate records involving installation, maintenance, repair, and upgrades.
  • Recruits, trains, coaches and evaluate performance of staff as required.
  • Supervises, manages, and coordinates daily maintenance job assignments and provides direction and assistance to mechanical and electrical staff to assure that all required maintenance and repairs are completed in a timely manner and that the plant is prepared for production requirements.
  • Assist employees in proper operation and maintenance of equipment and machinery.
  • Ensure that the company safety program and food safety culture is always adhered to and that good housekeeping practices are continually used.
  • Establishes and maintains adequate inventories of spare parts and supplies to assure that all critical pieces of equipment are available for continual production operation.
  • Evaluates and develops preventative maintenance plans.
  • Defines, assigns and coordinates routine preventative/predictive maintenance on a regular basis, including working with hydraulics, electrical, pneumatic, power transmissions, welding, and fabrication, vibration analysis, balancing, alignment, and oil analysis.
  • Leads and participates in process improvement, cost reduction and capital project programs.
  • Drives continuous safety/environmental improvement and culture based on current best practices.
  • Establishes and maintains successful relationships with all departments to ensure maintenance, operational and improvement needs are prioritized and addressed in a timely manner.
  • Coordinates building, fabrication, installation and modification of plant equipment to eliminate machine or system malfunctions.
  • Assure mechanical and electrical equipment conforms to safety and operational regulations and requirements.
  • Reviews and approves requisitions and purchase orders relating to plant and facilities maintenance and repair as well as assigned projects for process improvement and expansion to assure compliance with budget constraints.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical designs and application in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Preventative and Predictive Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Good knowledge of preventative maintenance with pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
  • Must be able to understand, troubleshoot, and rebuild mechanical transmission equipment (including gears, sprockets, chains, reduction components, etc.), fluid power equipment (including oil, air, water, etc.), and electrical equipment (including PLC's, motors, circuits, ladder logic, etc.).
  • Must possess the ability to work with staff from other departments and outside the company.
  • Must be able to read and understand manuals, printed instructions, blueprints, and production records.
  • Working knowledge of code requirements, including fire protection, security, grounds, internal structural plans, HVAC, electrical, and plumbing.
  • Supervisor experience and knowledge of current management and supervisory techniques.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills; ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to resolve operational and mechanical problems and minimize delays or unexpected cost increases.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-quality environment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair machinery and to complete projects within budget and in a timely manner.
  • Ability to develop creative solutions to problems and challenges as they are identified and resolve them in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and follow-through in all areas of responsibility.
  • Ability to develop and coordinate projects and effectively communicate changes and progress verbally and in writing.
  • Must be able to operate computer systems such as Windows, MS Office Suite, and internal programs and software.

Education And Experience

  • Minimum two years post High School education is required (academic or technical) to provide necessary skill level to accomplish job.
  • Prior experience with installation, maintenance, technical systems, and upgrading of machines and processes required.
  • Prior experience working in a production environment preferred.
  • 5 years related or transferable maintenance manager experience.
  • 3 years direct supervision experience.
  • Verified maintenance work experience may satisfy educational requirements provided experience is relevant to Company needs.

Pressure Of Work

Must ensure machinery always operates efficiently and repairs are completed thoroughly and efficiently to meet production schedules and deadlines. Must allocate maintenance staff time based on Company priorities. New machinery and processes must be installed correctly and as efficiently as possible. Product quality must be maintained at always required levels or higher. The candidate must maintain a safe work environment.

Impact

Successful performance will have a direct impact on the company’s bottom line. Failure in any area of responsibility can delay production, affect the quality of product, and have negative impacts on customer service and revenue.

Scope

Use good judgment to balance use of resources daily. The position requires constant awareness of overall operation. Candidate must be able to make quick and correct decisions that affect the day-to-day operation. Maintain equipment for maximum reliability and efficiency.

Contact With Others

Direct contact with management and leadership staff, shift employees and maintenance staff, continual coordination with maintenance staff and others within the company, as needed, to ensure effective and efficient operation and maintenance of machinery and facilities. Work with outside contractors, as needed.

Work Direction Over Others

Provide support and directions to maintenance staff daily. Provide directions, training, and help in problem resolution for employees and management.

Supervision Received

Work under direction of the Manufacturing Manager.

Working Conditions

Candidate must be able to work hours necessary to support production and on-call duties. Work in an industrial environment with moderate temperature fluctuations that can cause some discomfort. Use ladders, elevated walkways, etc., to access machinery and facility structures as needed. Reach, crawl, kneel, etc., and move various components of the machinery and facility to complete repairs and general maintenance. Move raw materials, finished products, supplies, etc. with or without assistance. Candidate must have a valid driver's license as position requires operation of forklift and company motor vehicles, as needed.
