POSITION EXPECTATION


Position Summary  
The Equipment Operator – Trash Compactor transports and disposes of salvage or recycled goods or trash in order to meet preset production and sales goals. They handle day-to-day operations of ensuring trash is emptied and Clearance Center tables are cleared to meet operating using pallet jacks and dollies.

Responsibilities 

  • Moves salvage/trash merchandise and Clearance Center tables to the compactor.
  • Structures day-to-day operations to allow everyone to meet preset production and sales goals.
  • Depending on the production needs, may be required to physically load or unload truck for/from deliveries.
  • Follows all Safety policies, Asset Protection policies, and team member policies as outlined in the Team Member Guidebook, Asset Protection and Safety Manual.
  • Reports all injuries or Safety and Asset Protection violations to a superior as soon as they occur or before the end of their shift.
  • Has the ability to operate safely a pallet jack or hand truck.
  • Occasionally assists loading and unloading of trucks and trailers donations/merchandise during sweeps and store deliveries as well as at the Warehouse.
  • Unloads and containers in the Warehouse areas (bins, totes, gaylords, etc.)
  • Must be flexible daily to help where needed in the Warehouse (compactor, baler, movement of merchandise, trucks, etc.)
  • Keeps work area clean and picked up at all times.
  • Inspects trash compactor for proper operation before beginning of shift.
  • Follows and initials daily maintenance log. Notates any issues.
  • Communicates malfunctions to supervisor.
  • Relocates tables or gaylords to the compactor for unloading.
  • Unloads tables or gaylords of trash into the compactor, ensuring each day processes 8 tons of trash per compactor bin.
  • Accurately records number and type of gaylords and tables emptied each shift and reports this to supervisor.
  • Meets pre-determined daily goals for the compactor.
  • Ensures compliance with all Goodwill policies provided in the Team Member Guidebook, Goodwill Industries International standards, and safety and security regulations.
  • Adheres to all Goodwill Retail manuals, handbooks, policies, and procedures.
  • Assists in any other projects or tasks as determined by management.

Environmental Factors 
Due to the donation of materials, dust and animal hair may be present in the warehouse throughout the year. Duties are performed in the Goodwill Warehouse with concrete flooring that has quasi-regulated temperatures. Position is generally standing and walking; some bending, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and lifting will be required when dealing with merchandise or donations. Exposure to heat, cold, dust and sometimes humidity is a possibility. 

Physical Factors

  • Must be able to lift/carry up to 50 pounds. 
  • Must be able to push/pull carts through the Warehouse up to 100 pounds.
Qualifications:

Education, Experience, and Requirements
Required

  • Willing to become certified on the balers or tippers and OSHA forklift certified. 
  • High School Diploma or equivalent completion.
  • Must be able to follow verbal instructions and work as a team member.
  • Must be able to read and write.
  • Must be able to continuously perform repetitive work at a set pace.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to learn the techniques of the job during the first 30 days of employment.
  • Must exhibit a high level of integrity and business ethics.
  • Must have a high level of adaptability and flexibility. 

Preferred

  • Previous experience using pallet trucks or hand trucks a plus.
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) a plus.
