Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Assistant Cook to join our team in delivering excellent meals in an early childcare setting. This role involves various responsibilities, including food preparation, serving, and ensuring the highest standards of food safety and cleanliness in our day school.
Duties
- Assist in preparation of breakfast, lunch and afternoon snacks for all classrooms
- Build positive relationships and communicate in a respectful manner with families, children, team members, administration, Board of Directors, and the communities in which we serve
- Serve meals to each classroom on time, at the appropriate temperature
- Work with staff to collect meal numbers before food preparation of each meal
- Prepare appropriate amounts of food for each classroom, with amounts served meeting appropriate guidelines
- Maintain a clean and organized kitchen, including all food storage areas
- Make sure all thermometers are working properly
- Ensure all food items are checked for expiration dates
- Wash and sanitize all dishes
- Clean the entire kitchen, cafeteria, and appliances throughout the day
- Remove trash and recyclables daily
- Organize and put away all groceries, food orders and non-food items
- Turn in all kitchen expense receipts and pre-prepared food item labels (CN labels) to the Administration Team
- Know and follow the mission of Good Shepherd Day School
- Protect the privacy and confidentiality of information pertaining to families, children, team members, administration, and Board of Directors
Qualifications
- Previous experience in early childhood or school settings is preferred.
- Strong customer service skills with a friendly demeanor.
- Experience in food preparation and handling is essential;
- Knowledge of dietary aide responsibilities and food safety practices is highly desirable.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills and a team-oriented attitude are essential for success in this role.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $11.00 - $13.00 per hour
