Qualifications:
Preferred: Must be least 21 years of age with one year's experience in residential care. Bachelor's degree, in human services, from an accredited university or college.
Minimum: Must be least 21 years of age with a high school diploma or GED.
Hours: This is a PRN (as needed) position for our Step Ahead program, located in Brighton, MO.
Position Summary: Responsible for the 24-hour care of the residents. Is part of a treatment team that guides and maintains the therapeutic milieu of the Ranch. Area of focus is on the group. The person holding this position must have a commitment to empowering others to solve their own problems and be able to nurture the family as the ideal environment for a person. The employee in this position will demonstrate a conviction concerning the capacity of people to grow and change. The employee in this position must demonstrate the ability to establish a respectful relationship with persons served to help them gain skills and confidence. The employee must demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with other personnel, service providers and professionals. They must also demonstrate the capacity to maintain a helping role and intervene appropriately to meet the service goals of the resident and the resident's family. Appropriate interventions include the ability to set and maintain appropriate behavioral limits.
Special Working Conditions: Exposure to residents and, at times, treatment conditions; long and irregular working hours.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Participate in developing, implementing, and evaluating written treatment plans, appropriate for the therapeutic needs of each resident. Assist in communicating in the log, completing incident reports, and writing monthly progress notes.
- Assist in providing guidance, instruction, and supervision through therapeutic interaction with each resident and/or group of residents.
- Assist in supervising all resident activities.
- Participate in staff meeting, in-service training, and other appropriate meetings.
- Knowledge of group process and its application.
- Assist in conducting group meetings in the dormitory aimed at providing information, problem solving, increasing personal responsibility, and sharing personal information.
- Provide appropriate role models, as adults, for the residents.
- Assist in teaching and monitoring daily job performance of the residents. Assist in monitoring resident's daily responsibilities.
- Dispense medications to residents following nursing and state guidelines.
- Maintain a valid Class E Missouri driver license. If you do not have a class E license you will need to get one.
- Be physically able to participate in recreational /therapeutic activities with residents such as canoeing, hiking, and camping.
- Participate in and initiate if necessary physical control of residents.
- Perform additional duties as requested.
- Must be sensitive and responsive to cultural differences in staff and resident populations.
- This position requires forty (40) hours of annual training.
