The Illinois Licensed Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) leads and oversees boundary, topographic, and right-of-way surveying projects from initial research through final deliverables. This role is responsible for ensuring technical accuracy, regulatory compliance, and timely project completion while managing survey data, mapping, and documentation. The PLS supervises field and office staff, provides mentorship, and coordinates with engineers, clients, and project teams. Strong expertise in surveying principles, modern technology, and Illinois standards is essential to successfully deliver high-quality results.
This position has the opportunity to sit anywhere in the state of Illinois! Must have active Illinois PLS license!
Your Primary Responsibilities will include
- Lead and oversee boundary, topographic, and right-of-way surveys and deliverables.
- Manage survey projects from research through final mapping, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Perform and review boundary analysis, deed research, legal descriptions, and records of survey.
- Coordinate with engineers, project managers, and clients to support project goals and timelines.
- Prepare plats, exhibits, and mapping using AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar software.
- Supervise and mentor survey staff and coordinate with project teams and clients.
- Ensure compliance with Illinois standards and applicable regulations.
- Travel to job sites as needed.
- Operate survey equipment and oversee field data collection.
- Work outdoors in varying weather and site conditions.
- Load, transport, set up, and maintain survey equipment.
- Utilize digital tools such as tablets, GPS units, and data collectors.
- Active Illinois Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license required.
- 5 years of land surveying experience.
- Strong knowledge of surveying principles, boundary law, and ALTA/NSPS surveys.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation (Civil 3D or InRoads preferred).
- Experience with GPS and conventional survey methods.
- Familiarity with IDOT standards is a plus.
- Strong communication, organization, and project management skills.
- Valid driver’s license required.
