Job Purpose

Join our dynamic team as a Program Coordinator and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Outdoor Programs at Gonzaga! We're on the lookout for a proactive individual to take charge of streamlining programming logistics and providing mentorship to our dedicated student staff. In this role, you'll be at the forefront of developing innovative systems to support the expansion of our programs. As a Program Coordinator, you'll build and nurture strong professional relationships, collaborating seamlessly with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders. Your responsibilities will extend to performing crucial administrative duties that support our staff, student leaders, and visitors. With the opportunity to lead and supervise various student employee positions, you'll be a key player in fostering a vibrant and inclusive community. This role both includes dedicated field time, and is also designed to allow the employee to work in field beyond Gonzaga during 1 month off in the summer (between early June and mid July) and 1 month off during the school year (typically November). As part of our team, you'll be instrumental in building community, imparting technical outdoor skills, developing leaders, and helping students build connection with the unique ecosystems of the Inland Northwest!

Essential Functions

  • 30% - Student Supervision and Mentorship
    • Serve as lead or assistant trip leader on Gonzaga Outdoors and Immersive Outdoor Learning trips during the week or on weekends.
    • Dependent on experience, this position may also lead week-long spring break trips, or multi-week domestic study abroad trips.
    • Facilitate and instruct portions of Trip Leader Trainings in collaboration with Program Managers.
    • Supervise 3 student employees working in operations (gear, rations, etc.).
    • Provide coaching and mentorship in order to help students develop leadership skills within their position.
    • Establish a multidirectional feedback culture.
  • 60% - Program Logistics
    • Oversee all processes directly tied to trips (gear, rations, vehicles, permits) in conjunction with our Student Operations Employees and other professional staff.
    • Develop and implement systems that support program operations related trips, logistics, office functions, and student staff training.
    • Coordinate trip and event logistics for larger programs such as pre-orientation, Spring Break, and Gonzaga-in-the-Wilderness.
    • Manage overall equipment strategy, including purchasing priorities, and securing discounts and/or donations.
    • Ensure Rations process is in compliance with good standards of food handling safety.
    • Oversee maintenance and organization of equipment room.
    • Oversee maintenance of Gonzaga Outdoors Vehicles and booking of other vehicles.
    • Coordinate accommodations for trip participants.
    • Additional Duties as Assigned by the Department

    Educational Requirement

    Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Experience

    Years Of Related Experience Requirement

    1 year

    In lieu of the educational qualifications, candidates may qualify with equivalent professional experience at a ratio of one year of experience for each year of required education.

    Certifications And/or Licensures

    Wilderness First Aid or higher, Epinephrine Auto-Injector & CPR certifications

    Valid Driver's License and ability to obtain WA state driver's license

    Good driving record

    Experience leading outdoor trips in a formal role.

    B.S. or B.A. from an accredited school of higher education in student development, outdoor education/recreation, experiential education, business administration, or related field or equivalent experience.

    Previous successful work experience that includes a minimum of one year of full-time or part-time equivalent experience in an outdoor recreation, outdoor recreation office management or equivalent.

    An understanding of Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion topics.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Knowledge of experiential education and outdoor leadership, with the integration of Jesuit perspectives.

    Preferred to have a Wilderness First Responder Certification or higher.

    An understanding and ability to apply student development theories with a priority on student learning and growth.

    Previous Supervisory Experience Is Preferred.

    Professional experience leading outdoor trips.

    Ability to help further Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion efforts our program progress in our work in this area.

    Experience with emergency and on-call systems for wilderness programming.

    The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to offer for this position: $21 - $21.53/hr

    Pay Range

    Minimum Salary (Non-Exempt): 20

    Midpoint Salary (Non-Exempt): 25

    Maximum Salary (Non-Exempt): 30
