Job Title: Financial Controller

POSITION SUMMARY
Gompers has existed since 1947 supporting the intellectually and developmental disabled of Arizona. This position is key to ensuring the on-going success of the organization by skillfully and responsibly managing the financial and administrative resources of Gompers. The Financial Controller is responsible for directing and supervising the work of the Accounting Department, including general accounting, A/P, A/R, payroll, budgets, audits and financial reporting.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES including, but not limited, to the following:
· Supervises accounting department staff (two at the present time)
· Oversees all internal and external financial reporting and general accounting, internal accounting and controls, accounting systems and procedures, protection of corporate assets, payroll, forecasting, budgets, and financial and pension fund audits
· Participates in bi-monthly finance committee and board of director meetings; provides and reports on standard financial reporting and analysis of on-going operations and special projects
· Prepares ad-hoc reports and analyses in support of programs and organizational initiatives
· Oversees the bi-weekly payroll processing ensuring that both HR and Accounting are updating information as required related to new hires, terminations, direct deposits, wage updates and more
· Member of the senior executive leadership team (Executive Director, VP of Operations, HR Director and finance) providing guidance and support related to staffing, insurance plans, organizational initiatives, special events and more
· Works with outside CPA firm in the preparation of annual audited financial statements and pension audit and related non-profit tax return; responsible for preparation of audit schedules in response to audit documentation requirements
· Ensures that internal accounting controls and related procedures are sufficiently adequate to eliminate the misuse of corporate assets and, at a minimum, uncover questionable activity on a timely basis
· Assists the Executive Director with long term financial projections, strategic planning, and operational and capital budgets
· Oversees the monthly DES/DDD (Department of Economic Security Division of Developmental Disabilities) and private pay billing
· Manages the organization’s banking relationship and treasury function ensuring that working capital is sufficient to meet on-going short-term and long-term needs
· Ensures A/R aging reports are prepared and distributed electronically at least twice monthly and that outstanding receivables are being addressed on a timely basis
· Assists in setting short-term investment policies with regard to investments; governs overall credit policies
· Primarily responsible for the preparation and incorporation into the financial system of the annual operating and capital budgets which are reviewed and approved at the finance committee and board of director level
· Works with senior and middle management on a variety of issues including, but not limited to, ad-hoc analyses, transportation, fleet management, risk management and more
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
· 4 year accounting or related business degree; if non-related degree, experience in similar position will be considered; CPA not required
· Supervisory experience required; 2-3 years of verifiable experience
· Nonprofit and DES/DDD experience preferred
· Must possess or be able to obtain an Arizona Department of Public Safety Level One Fingerprint card
· Strong communication ability especially in the written form; able to succinctly provide information on financial and operational matters
· Significant experience with MS-Office, HRIS and enterprise financial accounting systems a must; Gompers uses Payroll Experts for HR and payroll and Sage’s Abila MIP financial/accounting software
· Customer service mindset; Accounting is a service department to the rest of the firm
· Organized and must be able to manage multiple priorities and tasks simultaneously
