Are you a strategic financial leader with a passion for accuracy, efficiency, and compliance? We are seeking an experienced Financial Controller to oversee and enhance our accounting processes, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to financial best practices in the non-medical home care industry.
About the Role:
As the Financial Controller, you will manage key financial functions, including general ledger maintenance, accounts payable, accounts receivable, revenue tracking, and financial reporting. You will play a critical role in financial planning and analysis, supporting strategic decision-making while maintaining strong internal controls. Additionally, you will lead and develop the accounting team, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to budgetary guidelines.
Reporting Structure:
This position reports directly to the Vice President. You will collaborate closely with leadership to ensure financial objectives align with the company’s strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage all general accounting functions, including but not limited to accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, taxes, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
- Manage financial reporting, ensuring compliance with GAAP and familiarity with IFRS standards.
- Lead budgeting and forecasting processes; conduct cash flow forecasting, analyze variances, prepare annual budgets, and initiate corrective actions as needed.
- Oversee revenue cycle management, including billing, reimbursements, and collections to support healthy cash flow.
- Understand and manage insurance contracts and reimbursement processes to optimize revenue.
- Leverage accounting software (QuickBooks or healthcare-specific systems), electronic medical record (EMR) platforms, and data analytics tools to support financial decision-making and develop executive dashboards.
- Develop and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) and consistent management reports with variance analysis to support operational and strategic decision-making.
- Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with healthcare financial regulations, including HIPAA and Medicare/Medicaid requirements.
- Lead and mentor the accounting team, including payroll and billing staff, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
- Maintain robust internal controls and ensure financial compliance with legal and industry regulatory requirements.
- Meet accounting financial objectives by cash flow forecasting, preparing an annual budget, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective actions.
- Assess current financial practices, identify trends, and recommend and implement system improvements to enhance efficiency and financial performance.
- Manage financial compliance and reporting across multiple states and geographic regions, ensuring adherence to local and federal regulations.
- Assist with financial due diligence for potential acquisitions or partnerships, providing analysis to support strategic growth initiatives.
- Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements for accuracy and completeness.
- Collaborate with external auditors to ensure correct and timely year-end closing and reporting.
- Support strategic decision-making by providing financial insights and analysis.
- Navigate and solve complex financial challenges in a dynamic healthcare environment.
- Avoid legal challenges by understanding current and proposed legislation, enforcing accounting regulations, and recommending new procedures.
- Provide financial insights to guide business strategy and inform leadership decisions.
- Conduct cost analysis and efficiency reviews to identify opportunities for expense reduction without compromising care quality.
- Perform ad hoc financial analysis and special projects as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field required.
- CPA license or CPA firm experience preferred but not required.
- 5 years of financial management/accounting experience, ideally in home health care, with Medicare and Medicaid billing experience desired.
- 1 to 3 years of supervisory experience required.
- Detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to work under tight deadlines.
- Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills with an innovative mindset.
- Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and professionalism.
