Senior Electrical Estimator – Substation / Electrical Utility Construction (Farmington, Connecticut) Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Estimator to support utility, substation, transmission and distribution, and other complex electrical construction projects. This individual will independently lead estimates from initial bid review through final pricing, submission, and turnover to operations.
The ideal candidate will have a strong electrical construction background with an electrical contractor, utility contractor, T&D contractor, or EPC contractor. Seasoned commercial electrical estimators with experience leading complex electrical construction pursuits will also be considered.
Senior Electrical Estimator Responsibilities

Senior Electrical Estimator Responsibilities
- Lead complex electrical estimates from initial bid review through final pricing, submission, and turnover.
- Review drawings, specifications, contracts, and bid documents to develop complete project scopes and detailed takeoffs.
- Develop labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and vendor pricing based on constructability and project requirements.
- Identify scope gaps and risks related to labor, scheduling, outages, procurement, logistics, constructability, and incomplete design.
- Develop value engineering opportunities and contribute to bid strategy, competitive positioning, and final pricing decisions.
- Lead estimate turnover to operations and mentor or review the work of less experienced estimators.
- Extensive electrical construction estimating experience with an electrical contractor, utility contractor, T&D contractor, or EPC contractor preferred.
- Experience estimating substations, transmission and distribution infrastructure, high-voltage electrical construction, or other utility-related projects is highly preferred.
- Working knowledge of utility/substation scopes including transformers, breakers, switches, grounding, duct banks, cable, terminations, control wiring, testing, commissioning, and energization.
- Strong understanding of labor productivity, outage planning, sequencing, equipment procurement, long-lead materials, constructability, and field execution.
- Demonstrated ability to independently develop and own large or complex estimates while identifying commercial, contractual, procurement, and execution risks.
- Strong commercial electrical estimators will also be considered, even without utility experience, if they have a proven history of leading complex electrical construction estimates.
