POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. A Day Camp Leader provides leadership and guidance for a group of campers, ensuring a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. A Day Camp Leader creates positive, nurturing relationships with children, while building cooperative relationships with parents/caregivers. Under the direction of the Youth Development Director, the Day Camp Leader will be responsible for assisting with the planning, development and implementation of program activities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Supervise assigned group of campers, as well as assist in supervision of all program participants.

• Provide opportunities for each camper to lead, problem solve, and make decisions within the program. Provide daily opportunities to reflect and develop awareness of their choices and respond to experiences. 

• Creates an atmosphere that nurtures through purposeful programing. Implements assigned activities and when appropriate plans and leads activities that are developmentally appropriate, culturally relevant and consistent with the Y’s values. 

• Attend all required trainings, staff meetings and in services.

• Follow all policies, procedures and standards established by the YMCA. (e.g. disciplinary, child abuse prevention, emergency procedures, risk management) 

• Ensure health and safety of campers and maintain a safe and clean environment; keep all equipment, supplies and program spaces in good condition.

• Maintain positive relations with campers and other staff, model relationship building skills in all interactions.

• Participate and assist in family and special program activities.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A Day Camp Leader must possess good communication and organizational skills. A Day Camp Leader must have the ability to maintain control of area even when distracted by noise or activity, and work with a diverse group of people. A Day Camp Leader also must possess:

• CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date

• Ability to implement age-appropriate/developmentally-appropriate program activities

• Previous experience with diverse populations

• Ability to develop positive relationships with people from different backgrounds

• Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise program activities in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor locations (depending upon the programs).

Salary : $10 - $12
