Job Overview

The Director reports directly to the President of the Board or other designated officer in the Presidents absence.
Primary Function
Promote the Golden Spike Tower & Visitor Center as an education and tourism destination. Direct the overall daily operations of the attraction, including coordination of budget preparation, oversight of daily cash activity, program of work, personnel management, and marketing goals and objectives.
Duties
- Supervises Golden Spike staff, volunteers and daily operations of the business and facilities.
- Develop and implement comprehensive strategic plans, policies and procedures that align with Board of Directors and organization goals and community needs.
- Lead and motivate teams to execute initiatives effectively, fostering a collaborative and high-performance environment.
- Oversee organizational operations, ensuring efficiency, compliance, and continuous process improvement across all departments.
- Cultivate strong relationships with Union Pacific Railroad, stakeholders, board members, funders, government agencies, and community members through outreach efforts.
- Maintain knowledge of Union Pacific Railroad Bailey Yard.
- Drive business development activities to expand programs, secure funding opportunities, and enhance organizational sustainability.
- Promote a culture of innovation, leadership development, and operational excellence that supports long-term growth.
- Prepare the annual operating budget in partnership with the bookkeeper.
- Prepare and distribute monthly Board agendas, attend monthly Board meetings, and carry out Board-directed initiatives.
- Analyze, oversee or complete grant applications and additional fundraising opportunities.
- Human Resources including hiring, training, and discharge of employees.
- Maintain personnel records and conduct annual performance reviews.
- Develop and implement annual marketing and promotional campaigns.
- Represent the organization to the press.
- Present to civic, governmental, and professional organizations.
Experience
- College degree or equivalent experience in tourism-related work
- Proven management experience in leading complex organizations, museums or non-profits with a focus on strategic planning and operational oversight.
- Demonstrated success in senior leadership roles with a track record of effective property operations and staff and volunteer management.
- Strong background in sales and business development, including securing funding streams and expanding organizational reach.
- Expertise in project management methodologies with an emphasis on process improvement and operational efficiency.
- Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to inspire teams, foster collaboration, and drive organizational change.
- Familiarity with local and regional history
- Familiarity with governance structures, financial management, and compliance requirements relevant to executive-level roles.
Pay: $65,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
