Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Medical Billing Assistant to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing medical billing processes, coding, and ensuring accurate and timely submission of claims. This role requires a strong understanding of medical terminology, coding systems, and electronic health record (EHR) systems to support efficient revenue cycle management and improve patient account accuracy.
Responsibilities
- Review and process medical claims using CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10, and DRG coding standards
- Ensure accurate coding of diagnoses and procedures in compliance with healthcare regulations
- Submit claims electronically through EMR/EHR systems and follow up on unpaid or denied claims
- Manage medical records and documentation to support billing processes
- Perform medical collections by contacting insurance companies and patients as needed
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding changes and billing regulations
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation for proper billing
- Assist in resolving billing discrepancies and patient account issues in a timely manner
Skills
- Proficiency in medical billing procedures and medical collection practices
- Strong knowledge of DRG, CPT coding, ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding systems
- Experience with EMR (Electronic Medical Records) and EHR (Electronic Health Records) systems
- Familiarity with medical terminology and medical records management
- Ability to accurately interpret medical documentation for coding purposes
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail
- Prior experience in a medical office setting is preferred
- Knowledge of healthcare regulations related to billing and coding is a plus
