Farmworker

Crops: Bell peppers, Hot Peppers, Cucumbers, Eggplant, Squashes, Watermelons, Cabbages, Tobacco, Zucchini, Lemons, Sweet potatoes, Oranges, Peppers, blueberries, onions and pumpkins. Primary Job Duties: Hand harvest into buckets or other containers, taking caution to not damage the berries or bushes. Use hand tools shovels, trowels, hoes, tampers, machetes, pruning hooks, shears and knives. Operate and ride on equipment to manually plant seeds or plants into the ground and cover with dirt. Walk behind the machine making sure all holes are filled and covered. Operate tractors to harvest crops and pull trailer in field during harvest. Operate forklifts to move produce around field and from field to storage. Walk behind tractor pulling trailer with orange trees, place tree in pre-dug hole, and cover with dirt using a shovel. Prune orange trees according to supervisor's instruction. String peppers, cucumbers, and eggplant. Harvest developed product from plants on assigned row by hand, or using a knife, making sure that plant is picked clean of all crops of correct size and maturity, or as instructed by supervisor. Workers must use care when harvesting not to damage product. Grade, sort, or classify agricultural products by size, weight, color and condition. Package harvested products into bins, bags, boxes, plastic containers and crates. Stack boxes onto pallets, transport vehicles or trailers. Load and unload harvested products and materials. Pull weeds, prune crop, maintain fields and perform irrigation activities. Install and remove items required in plasti culture. Install and remove stakes, wire, netting or string. Perform farm and field sanitation duties. Clean and maintain packing facility, fields, structures, grounds, and equipment. Workers will perform duties relating to drying and baling of tobacco. Remove tops, flowers and suckers; pull mature leaves from stalks; move/install/maintain irrigation system equipment and water lines/pipe; dig and maintain ditches; apply pesticides, herbicides, fungicides and other crop protectants, fertilizers, plant growth chemicals, conditioners, and other plant related treatments; mow, cut and weed fields; perform ditching, shoveling, hoeing, hauling, ground preparation , and other manual tasks; and lift, carry, and load/unload products or supplies. Workers will also be in the capacity of operating equipment, cleaning and maintaining equipment, structures and grounds. Assist with Good Agricultural Practices policies. Employer-paid post-hire drug testing is required upon reasonable suspicion of use and after a worker has an accident at work. Workers who possess a valid driver’s license and meet all applicable legal requirements, including holding a doctor’s certificate as required by 29 CFR § 500.105, may be asked to drive vehicles for transporting workers, goods, or commodities on company business. This task is voluntary, compensable, and not a mandatory job duty. Workers without a valid driver’s license or doctor’s certificate will still be fully eligible for employment and are not disqualified from any other job responsibilities outlined in this application.
