We are seeking a Principal Engineer for a fast growing martech/adtech start-up (100-200 employees, funded)
Mandate
- Serve as the technical lead for a distributed engineering team, driving backend modernization and architectural unification.
- Bring structure and leadership to systems split between legacy and newer stacks.
- Lead by doing: actively code, review, and set direction with a strong hands-on bias.
- Location: West Hollywood, California. We’re looking for someone who can work on-site most days.
Ideal Profile
- 8–12 years in backend or full-stack engineering; must be a strong hands-on builder.
- Experience scaling a start-up through a major growth or inflection point.
- Strong proficiency with Node.js, React, GraphQL, Typescript, plus Docker/Kubernetes and AWS (or equivalent). Hands-on coding expected weekly with ownership of technical direction.
- Proven experience deploying AI/ML solutions (OpenAI, LangChain, vector DBs, RAG) as part of backend and product evolution.
- Expertise in distributed systems, microservices, and event-driven architecture (Kafka, RabbitMQ); current environment includes high-volume data pipelines and rapid growth.
- Skilled at optimizing large-scale, data-heavy applications and managing system complexity.
- Experience in martech, adtech, social/engagement tech, or related B2B SaaS environments is beneficial.
- Familiarity with integrating AI/automation into backend systems and working with distributed engineering teams.
