Position Summary
GMB Heavy Industries is seeking a Senior Technical Sales Professional with extensive experience in steel mill operations and custom heavy equipment solutions. This role is responsible for developing and managing key customer relationships, identifying capital equipment opportunities, and leading the technical and commercial sales process for custom‑engineered steel mill equipment including rolling mills, bar mills, material handling systems, and auxiliary equipment.
Key Responsibilities – Sales & Business Development
· Develop and execute strategic sales plans targeting steel producers and rolling mills across North America
· Identify, qualify, and pursue new capital equipment, modernization, and retrofit opportunities
· Manage the full sales lifecycle from initial engagement through contract award
· Build and maintain long‑term relationships with plant management, engineering, maintenance, and procurement teams
Key Responsibilities – Technical & Engineering Interface
· Serve as the primary technical liaison between customers and internal engineering and manufacturing teams
· Lead technical discussions to define scope, performance criteria, and compliance requirements
· Support development of custom engineered solutions including layouts and technical concepts
· Participate in technical reviews, proposal meetings, and customer presentations
Key Responsibilities – Proposal & Contract Management
· Prepare and review technical and commercial proposals including scope, pricing, schedules, and assumptions
· Collaborate with engineering, estimating, and project management to develop competitive offers
· Support contract negotiations, clarifications, and change management
· Ensure alignment between quoted scope and contractual deliverables
Key Responsibilities – Market & Industry Engagement
· Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and customer capital investment plans
· Represent GMB Heavy Industries at industry conferences and customer facilities
· Provide feedback on product development and customer needs to senior leadership
Qualifications & Experience – Required
· Minimum 10 years of experience in technical sales or engineered equipment sales within the steel or heavy industrial sector
· Strong working knowledge of steel mill processes including rolling, reheating, finishing end and material handling
· Proven success selling custom engineered‑to‑order capital equipment
· Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
· Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills
· Willingness to travel extensively throughout Canada and the United States
Qualifications & Experience – Preferred
· Engineering degree in Mechanical, Metallurgical, or Industrial Engineering
· Experience working with OEMs, EPCs, and integrated steel mill producers
· Familiarity with CSA, OSHA, ASTM, and other applicable standards
· Experience managing long‑cycle, multi‑million‑dollar capital equipment sales
