Role Description The Payroll Specialist is a full-time, on-site role based in Livermore, CA. This position is responsible for end-to-end payroll processing, including collecting and verifying timekeeping data, entering and maintaining employee payroll records, and ensuring timely and accurate payment to team members. The Payroll Specialist will calculate wages, overtime, deductions, and garnishments, and will manage payroll taxes, reporting, and compliance with relevant federal, state, and local regulations. Day-to-day responsibilities include handling payroll inquiries, coordinating with HR and Finance on employee changes and benefits impacts, reconciling payroll reports, and supporting audits and continuous process improvements. The role also involves maintaining confidentiality, updating payroll procedures, and providing clear communication to staff regarding pay-related matters.
Qualifications
- Strong skills in Payroll Administration and Payroll Processing, including end-to-end cycles and data accuracy.
- Experience managing Payroll Taxes and Payroll Services with a focus on regulatory compliance and timely filings.
- Knowledge of Garnishments and other payroll-related deductions, with the ability to apply legal and policy requirements correctly.
- Proficiency with payroll software systems and Microsoft Excel or similar tools for reporting and reconciliation.
- Excellent attention to detail, numerical accuracy, and organizational skills in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive employee information with discretion.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills for collaborating with HR, Finance, and external partners.
- Prior experience as a Payroll Specialist or in a similar payroll-focused role; experience in nonprofit or community-focused organizations is a plus.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred.
