Primary Function:
To support student learning and achievement by promoting and maintaining the health, well being, and safety of students and staff; Facilitates positive student responses to normal growth and development; Provides nursing care for students under the direction of the school district RN; Provides case management services; Actively collaborates with others to build student and family capacity for adaptation, self-management, self advocacy and learning
Qualifications:
- CNA Certification
- Two (2) years of clinical experience
- Valid Arizona driver’s license in order to transport students on occasion
- Registered as a Medicaid provider
- Maintain valid CPR and First Aid Training
Assigned Responsibilities:
- Coordinate Health Services program and provide nursing care under the direction of the district RN; Illness and injury assessments, interventions and referrals as needed
- Follow state law, health department and school district policies and procedures for communicable diseases, immunizations and child abuse
- Identify assess, plan interventions, evaluate and document student health concerns
- Screen for health factors that impact student education/achievement such as vision, hearing, dental, growth and development
- Manage chronic diseases and provide relevant education through various avenues of communications
- Administer student medications as prescribed by Arizona law
- Provide pediatric nursing procedures such as: catheterization, tracheostomy care, suctioning, gastrostomy feedings, chest percussion and ventilators
- Develop individualized nursing care plans and services for students with disabilities and/or health conditions that interfere with learning and school parameters
- Work with RN to develop individualized education plans for health services for special needs children
- Establish and maintain communication with parents/guardians
- Work collaboratively with school and district staff
- Provide first aid and health counseling for staff
- Act as a health curriculum resource for promotion, prevention activities, education and counseling for students, staff, and parents/guardians
- Identify health and safety concerns in the school environment; promote a nurturing school environment
- Participate on the Crisis Team (As prescribed by the district)
- Acts as health care provider liaison between school and community
- Maintain confidential student health information and records
- Maintain health office supplies and equipment
- Maintain Medicaid logs and relevant time studies
- Provide other related tasks assigned by building level and/or district level administration
