**Purpose and Scope:**
The NPI Engineering Process Technician assists Project Engineering in the development, launch, and maintenance of the company's wire harness production processes through the New Product Introduction (NPI) process. This role supports new product launches, establishes quality and customer requirements, and ensures processes meet customer needs for quality, yield targets, quoted labor times, and PPAP submissions. The technician will collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams to review customer requirements, develop documentation, build prototypes/pilots, participate in process reviews, and ensure accurate, efficient, and high-quality manufacturing processes.
**Key Responsibilities:**
Review customer drawings to understand specified requirements; identify manufacturability concerns and communicate them to the Engineering team.
Research required component specifications to ensure a fully manufacturable process (including safety, ergonomics, tooling, torque, and other production requirements).
Build parts to print with minimal documentation to verify manufacturability and supporting documentation.
Develop required production documentation and fixturing for efficient, quality-focused processing, including detailed Operating Instructions, Wire/Cable Processing Sheets, Test/Layout Fixtures, Wire Processing Fixtures, and Check Sheets.
Gain understanding of the ERP system (e.g., PLEX) to create new assembly items, detail processes, input BOMs, and manage other processing requirements.
Assist in evaluating new project releases through Pilot runs and full production implementation.
Participate in production Hand-Off meetings (Gate 2 Review) including review of Manufacturability Reports and processing details.
Review Manufacturability Reports after Pilot completion and implement necessary improvements/actions to update product BOM/routing.
Collaborate with engineering/quality to maintain proper documentation and fixture control procedures.
Assist with prototype and engineering builds based on preliminary documentation.
Aid in development of PPAP requirements (Control Plans, PFMEA, Process Flow, part layouts, etc.) based on customer specifications.
Coordinate with quality/purchasing on environmental compliance requirements (ROHS/REACH).
Support process capability studies (DOEs), change control, and application of Lean Manufacturing tools where applicable.
**Required Qualifications and Skills:**
1-2 years of hands-on experience in the Electrical and/or Industrial Manufacturing or Engineering field.
Experience with wire harness industry production and quality standards/workmanship guidelines (WHMA/IPC 620) is a plus.
Upon hire, must become IPC certified (Class 3) within 90 days.
Strong knowledge of engineering procedures, process capability studies (DOEs), and change control.
Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing tools.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to support advance planning for quality.
Good communication skills, both oral and written, with ability to write detailed, legible documentation.
Strong team player who recognizes the value of organizational support.
Ability to analyze drawings and CAD data to determine design and manufacturing requirements.
Assist in recommending appropriate components, tooling, fixtures, and materials based on product requirements.
Good organizational skills.
Strong computer skills including MS Excel (spreadsheets and charting), and preferably PLEX or similar ERP system.
Proficient in AutoCAD a plus.
