Job Summary
The Specimen Technician (SPT I) provides essential support within the Specimen Processing Department. This role includes specimen intake, sorting, processing, data entry, and distribution of samples to laboratory departments while ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance. The SPT I must adapt to daily operational changes, maintain high productivity and quality standards, and work effectively in a fast-paced production environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform A-station processing, presort, pickup, and delivery of specimens to laboratory departments.
- Complete centrifugation, aliquoting, imaging, and microfilming tasks as assigned.
- Enter specimen and test order data with 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes/hour accuracy.
- Understand specimen types and associated testing requirements.
- Maintain knowledge of compliance regulations related to test ordering.
- Adapt to evolving testing and specimen-handling requirements.
- Work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime when staffing requires.
- Maintain a neat and clean workspace and uphold safety policies in a biohazard environment.
- Communicate effectively with team members and adhere to core values and productivity standards.
- Demonstrate flexibility in a dynamic production environment.
Required Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment.
Nice-to-Have Experience
- Previous laboratory or hospital specimen-processing experience.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and clinical laboratory workflows.
- Prior experience in a production or quality-driven environment.

- Strong data entry speed and accuracy.
