Job Overview
The Phlebotomist Patient Services Representative (PSR) serves as the face of the organization, delivering high-quality patient interactions while performing forensic and clinical specimen collection. This role requires excellent phlebotomy technique, professionalism, and a strong commitment to accuracy, confidentiality, and patient trust. Assignments may vary based on business needs and may include patient service centers, physician offices, or mobile coverage.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and specimen collection following established practices and procedures
- Prepare and process specimens for laboratory testing
- Verify patient demographics, obtain patient signatures, and confirm specimen labeling accuracy
- Explain procedures clearly while creating an atmosphere of trust and confidence
- Maintain accurate records and required documentation
- Demonstrate leadership behaviors with a focus on process excellence and confidentiality
- Maintain a safe, clean, and professional work environment
- Perform daily activities accurately and on time under direction of area supervisor
- Promote a positive image with patients, clients, employees, and the public
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum 2–3 years of phlebotomy experience
- Excellent phlebotomy skills, including pediatric and geriatric draws
- Ability to work independently with minimal on-site supervision
- Ability to deliver error-free work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Superior customer focus and professional communication skills
- Ability to adapt quickly to change and variable schedules
Scheduling & Availability Requirements
- Flexible availability required, including weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime
- Must be available to work whenever scheduled, arrive on time, and remain for full shift
- May be required to work multiple locations with minimal notice
- Excessive absenteeism or tardiness is not tolerated and may result in termination
Time Zone: All shifts, all days of the week
Transportation & Travel
- Reliable personal transportation is required (bus, Uber, or rideshare is not considered reliable)
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required if applicable
- Training locations may vary based on trainer availability
Additional Requirements & Preferences
- Epic experience preferred
- Hospital site may require additional credentialing
- COVID-19 vaccination not required
- Position is not eligible for remote work
