Job Summary
The Hospital Lab Manager oversees hospital-based laboratory operations, ensuring high-quality testing, regulatory compliance, and strong client service within a Professional Lab Services (PLS) environment. This role provides strategic leadership, manages supervisors and staff at hospital sites, drives operational efficiency, and ensures delivery of all contractual obligations. The manager will collaborate closely with regional and national PLS leadership, hospital stakeholders, supply chain, scientific directors, and operational teams to ensure successful lab management performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage hospital laboratory services within the region, ensuring accuracy, quality, and contract fulfillment.
- Work with national PLS leadership to develop, design, and implement hospital lab management services.
- Oversee lab integration planning, start-up processes, and ongoing operational management.
- Act as the primary operational contact for hospital clients, maintaining strong relationships and clear communication.
- Train hospital management and staff; evaluate project effectiveness and team performance.
- Manage supervisors and staff at client hospital locations and ensure adherence to quality, productivity, and performance standards.
- Provide regular project status updates, highlight issues, and produce monthly/quarterly reports on quality, productivity, equipment, and workflow.
- Oversee contracted services between hospital sites and reference testing partners.
- Coordinate service expectations with hospital leadership and identify opportunities for expanded partnerships.
- Lead and participate in internal, client, and cross-functional meetings; manage documentation, project plans, and action items.
- Ensure adequate inventory levels and collaborate with procurement teams.
- Support budget development, financial activities, capital requests, and productivity metrics.
- Drive continuous improvement using Lean Six Sigma and other operational excellence methodologies.
Required Experience
- 5 years managerial experience in the laboratory industry.
- Prior hospital laboratory management experience preferred.
- Strong background in project management and operational leadership.
Required Skills
- Experience with lab consolidation, workflow design, and lab operational strategy.
- Ability to manage multiple complex engagements and hospital partnerships.
- Strong leadership, team management, and change management abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Advanced understanding of data analytics and performance metrics.
- Ability to work independently in the field; results-oriented mindset.
Preferred Skills
- Experience implementing continuous improvement or Lean Six Sigma methodologies.
- Strong client-facing skills and experience supporting hospital leadership.
- Ability to navigate complex organizational structures and contract requirements.
Required Credentials
- New York State Clinical Laboratory License (required)
