Technical Requirements:
- Provide strategic guidance and scientific expertise to support research and development initiatives.
- Serve as a key liaison between various departments and stakeholders, ensuring alignment with the VRC's scientific objectives and priorities.
- Provide scientific advice and strategic insights to the Director and Senior Leadership team on matters related to basic and translational research, product development, and emergency response activities.
- Collaborate closely with VRC scientists and translational research program staff to integrate scientific knowledge into VRC Leadership planning, process development, decision-making, and execution.
- Evaluate scientific literature, data, and emerging trends to inform decision-making processes and identify opportunities for innovation and advancement.
- Provide guidance to staff and cross-functional teams, fostering a culture of scientific excellence and continued innovation. Interface with Sr. Scientific staff to facilitate changing aspects of VRC’s R&D programs.
- Assist in supporting scientific conferences, meetings with collaborators within academic institutions.
- Anticipate and mitigate risks and challenges associated with R&D programs, proposing innovative solutions and internal management controls to overcome obstacles and drive program success.
- Stay current on relevant HHS guidelines and requirements to support the Director in related queries.
Qualifications:
Ph.D. in a scientific discipline with a minimum of 10 years of experience in R&D, translational science, product development, Clinical Operations, and/or regulatory support.
Proven track record of leadership and achievement, with a deep understanding of drug discovery and development processes.
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed decisions.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate across diverse teams and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including the ability to develop staff and foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
Prior experience in providing strategic advice and support to senior management.
Flexibility to adapt to a fast-paced and dynamic work environment, with a passion for driving scientific innovation.
