Required Qualifications

Role Overview
The Microbiology Lead is responsible for providing technical leadership and operational oversight across microbiology and manufacturing support functions, including systems controls, new product introductions, process optimization, data reporting, and root cause investigations. This role partners closely with Engineering, PR&D, Maintenance, QA, and plant leadership to ensure microbiological compliance while maintaining operational efficiency and minimizing disruption to production.
Serving as the site’s microbiology subject-matter expert, this individual will drive continuous improvement, strengthen laboratory capabilities, and ensure alignment with regulatory, safety, and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Laboratory Operations
- Oversee microbiological testing of raw materials, in-process samples, finished goods, environmental monitoring, and utilities.
- Develop, implement, and maintain laboratory methods, SOPs, and documentation standards.
- Serve as the primary microbiology SME and technical liaison across plant and division functions.
- Lead CAPA investigations related to microbiological deviations and non-conformities.
Quality, Compliance & Audits
- Ensure adherence to GMPs, FDA regulations, and internal quality policies.
- Represent microbiology during regulatory inspections, customer visits, and quality audits.
- Manage the internal microbiology audit program, including annual audit execution.
- Review global corrective actions and determine site-specific implementation strategies.
Continuous Improvement & Process Support
- Support manufacturing through new product introductions, process improvements, and systems control initiatives.
- Drive laboratory efficiency, accuracy, and productivity through continuous improvement initiatives.
- Utilize data collection, trending, and reporting tools to identify risks and optimize performance.
- Partner cross-functionally to resolve issues with minimal impact to plant productivity.
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing microbiology team through clear goal setting and ongoing feedback.
- Manage departmental budgets and identify cost-reduction opportunities.
- Foster a safe, collaborative, and professional work environment.
- Build strong partnerships with internal teams, contractors, vendors, and customers.
Salary : $120,000 - $140,000
