Role Description
We are seeking a professional and skilled American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter for a hybrid contract role, based in Washington, DC, with opportunities to work partially from home. The ASL Interpreter will facilitate communication between deaf and hearing individuals through American Sign Language during meetings, events, and other interactions. This role requires precision, cultural sensitivity, and adherence to ethical standards while ensuring accurate communication in spoken and signed languages.
Qualifications
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and strong interpreting skills
- Knowledge of Deaf Culture and a strong commitment to culturally competent communication
- Effective communication skills to foster understanding between all parties
- Experience in translation or additional languages is a plus
- Familiarity with virtual interpreting tools and technologies for remote work
- Certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or equivalent is preferred
- At least 2 years of professional interpreting experience is an advantage
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow ethical standards in interpreting practices
