Job Summary The Hospice Chaplain provides compassionate spiritual and emotional support to patients, families, caregivers, and staff. This role accompanies individuals through end-of-life experiences, grief, and moments of crisis, while honoring each person’s unique beliefs, values, and traditions. The Chaplain collaborates closely with the interdisciplinary hospice team to ensure holistic, patient-centered care.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide spiritual and emotional support to patients, families, caregivers, and staff during periods of transition, grief, loss, and anxiety.Offer spiritual interventions during crises and at the time of death.Support families and caregivers with spiritual and existential questions related to dying and end-of-life.Provide comfort, presence, and guidance throughout the hospice journey.Respect and honor diverse faith traditions, beliefs, and cultural practices.Serve as a liaison between the hospice team and the patient/family’s faith community.Conduct daily home visits to assess and address spiritual needs.Collaborate with the hospice interdisciplinary team to ensure coordinated, comprehensive care.Communicate with Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly (RCFEs) to ensure regulatory compliance.Maintain accurate, timely documentation of all spiritual care visits and interventions.Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours spiritual support.Required Experience & SkillsExperience supporting individuals and families through death, dying, and grief.Valid driver’s license and reliable, insured vehicle.Strong communication skills (oral and written).High level of empathy, professionalism, trust, and accountability.Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well with diverse populations.Ability to travel to patient homes and facilities.Comfortable using technology for documentation and communication.Preferred ExperiencePrior pastoral care or chaplaincy experience in a healthcare or hospice setting.Required EducationMaster of Divinity (M.Div.) or equivalent from an accredited theological or faith-based institution.Minimum of two units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE).Ecclesiastical endorsement from the appropriate faith authority.Required Certifications & LicensureBoard Certified Chaplain (in good standing with a recognized certifying body).Valid California driver’s license.
