Job Title: Asphalt Paving Superintendent
We are seeking an experienced Asphalt Paving Superintendent to oversee and coordinate crews engaged in spreading, rolling, tamping, and patching asphalt or similar materials for highways, streets, and airport runways.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure health and safety standards are met by complying with regulations and promoting a safe work environment.
- Supervise asphalt paving crews and daily operations.
- Ensure the safety of crew members and the public on and around job sites.
- Train and mentor new crew members.
- Determine the number of haul trucks required based on capacity, distance, traffic conditions, and productivity.
- Inspect job sites to monitor progress, verify compliance with specifications (e.g., slope and thickness), and ensure efficient use of labor and equipment.
- Coordinate crew activities, review production schedules, and estimate work requirements to meet or exceed project timelines and budgets.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Maintain accurate time and material records for job costing.
- Enforce company policies and procedures.
- Recommend improvements to production methods, equipment performance, product quality, and crew efficiency.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 3 years of asphalt paving experience, or equivalent combination of education and training.
- Ability to read and understand instructions, correspondence, and basic documentation.
- Strong math skills, including working with whole numbers, fractions, decimals, rates, and percentages.
- Basic computer and typing skills.
- Ability to operate equipment safely and efficiently.
- Strong recordkeeping skills for time and materials.
- Flexibility to work days, nights, and weekends as project demands require.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions and temperature extremes.
- Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
