Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role for a Director of Nursing located in Stafford, VA. The Director of Nursing will oversee and manage clinical operations, ensuring the delivery of high-quality care that aligns with the organization’s mission and regulatory standards. Responsibilities include supervising nursing staff, implementing patient care policies, monitoring compliance with infection control practices, and optimizing patient outcomes. The role also involves collaboration with healthcare providers, staff, and patients to enhance long-term care services and ensure operational efficiency.

The Director of Nursing is the highest clinical authority within the agency and bears full professional responsibility for the quality, safety, and integrity of all nursing and direct care services delivered across both the home healthcare and group home programs. This is a mission-critical leadership role that requires deep clinical expertise, strong regulatory knowledge, and the ability to inspire a culture of clinical excellence throughout the organization.

As a licensed Registered Nurse and experienced clinical leader, the Clinical Director sets and enforces clinical standards, develops care protocols, and ensures that every client receives individualized, evidence-based, and necessary care. This individual is responsible not only for overseeing the clinical work of nurses and aides, but also for building the systems, training programs, and accountability structures that make safe, high-quality care consistently possible at scale.

The Clinical Director plays a central role in every aspect of the agency's clinical operations, from the development of care plans and nursing assessments to the oversight of medication management, incident investigation, and quality assurance. This role requires someone who is equally comfortable conducting hands-on clinical supervision in the field, analyzing quality data at a systems level, and communicating complex clinical requirements to staff, families, surveyors, and payers.

In an agency serving clients with varying clinical needs across home and residential settings, the Clinical Director must be proactive, solutions-oriented, and deeply committed to both client outcomes and staff development. This individual serves as a trusted clinical resource for nurses, aides, group home staff, and administrators alike, and represents the agency's clinical standards in all regulatory and community-facing interactions.

Key Responsibilties

• Provide direct clinical supervision and professional oversight to all nursing staff including RNs, LPNs, CNAs, and HHAs across all programs
• Develop, implement, review, and update all clinical policies, care protocols, infection control procedures, and evidence-based practice guidelines
• Ensure that all client care plans are clinically appropriate, person-centered, individualized, and reviewed at required intervals
• Conduct or oversee initial nursing assessments, re-assessments, and care plan updates for home health and group home clients
• Lead the agency's quality assurance and performance improvement program, including data collection, analysis, and corrective action planning
• Oversee all incident reporting processes, conduct root cause analyses of adverse events, and lead the development and monitoring of corrective action plans
• Ensure ongoing compliance with all clinical licensing and certification requirements for nursing and direct care staff
• Serve as the agency's primary clinical contact during state surveys, accreditation reviews, and Medicaid audits
• Review all clinical documentation for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with billing and regulatory requirements
• Coordinate with the Training Coordinator to develop, deliver, and evaluate clinical competency and skills training programs for all care staff
• Conduct quarterly training sessions for nursing staff to reinforce clinical knowledge, ensure adherence to best practices, review regulatory requirements, and address emerging care needs to maintain high standards of patient care
• Collaborate with the Billing Manager to ensure clinical documentation supports proper Medicaid and insurance reimbursement
• Participate in client care conferences, family meetings, and interdisciplinary team discussions as needed
• Maintain awareness of changes in clinical best practices, regulatory requirements, and clinical technology relevant to home health and residential care
• Provide on-call clinical guidance and after-hours support to nursing and direct care staff as needed

Qualifications

• Proficiency in Nursing and Medicine to ensure high-quality patient care
• Expertise in Nursing Management and Long-term Care to oversee and support staff and care programs
• Strong knowledge of Medicaid waiver programs, OASIS documentation, and state clinical regulatory requirements
• Strong leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills
• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Virginia
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Nursing or related field (MSN preferred)
• Minimum of 5 years of clinical nursing experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role
• Familiarity with home health or long-term care settings is highly desirable
