A Project Engineer’s job is to provide technical, administrative, and field coordination support for a wide range of construction projects from start to finish. With 5 years of experience, you will independently manage project documentation, engineering controls, and subcontractor coordination to ensure projects are completed in a timely, accurate, and efficient manner by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties
Supports the execution and technical management of each project from conception to the finished structure.
Interfaces with construction professionals, subcontractors, and the client on a day-to-day basis regarding technical and operational needs.
Masters reading blueprints, structural drawings, and plan sets to identify constructability issues or discrepancies.
Additional Duties
Maintains a strong knowledge of construction materials, processes, verbiage, and equipment.
Assists the Project Manager in tracking, updating, and managing the project budget.
Estimates both construction management and self-perform work items.
Collaborates with the Project Manager and Superintendent to create, update, and maintain the project schedule.
Reviews subcontractor quotes, coordinates vendor procurement, and assists with negotiations.
Assists in preparing and organizing project proposals, clarifications, alternates, and value engineering options for clients and architects.
Supports Project Managers in reviewing contract requirements and owner agreements.
Processes, tracks, and manages subcontracts and subcontractor change orders.
Directly manages, reviews, and processes submittals, RFIs, change proposals, and owner change orders.
Authors and distributes detailed project meeting minutes.
Participates in and helps lead onsite meetings with the client, architect, subcontractors, and construction crew.
Collaborates with the architect, subcontractors, and construction crew to ensure the physical feasibility of each project.
Identifies and responds to potential technical or field issues throughout the life of the project to minimize negative impacts and help ensure the safety of the work.
Assists in preparing monthly client billings and tracking progress.
Reviews vendor and subcontractor invoices for accuracy and compliance prior to payment approval.
Tracks project costs and assists with preparing monthly cost projections.
Leads the quality control, punch list, and project closeout processes.
Assists in marketing and business development efforts.
Works collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.
Respectfully takes direction from Project Managers, Senior Project Managers, and the Vice President of Construction.

Supervisory Responsibilities
While this role does not have direct corporate hiring or disciplinary responsibilities, a Project Engineer with 5 years of experience is expected to actively mentor junior project engineers, assist in their training, and help delegate and review project documentation workloads within the team.

Education & Experience
5 years of related commercial construction experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education (e.g., Construction Management or Civil Engineering degree) and field experience.

Must have excellent phone etiquette and verbal communication skills and be able to speak effectively before groups of contractors, clients, or employees of the organization. Ability to read and interpret complex technical documents; to write routine reports and correspondence including memos, emails, and other documents. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with, and persuade customers and other stakeholders, by e-mail, telephone, and written correspondence.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have advanced knowledge of Microsoft Outlook; Microsoft Word; Microsoft Excel; Microsoft Project; and Bluebeam. Viewpoint and/or AIA Construction Software knowledge preferred.
Reasoning Ability
