POSITION OVERVIEW:
We are seeking an experienced Night Shift Supervisor to serve as the primary operational leader during the night shift at a high-volume automotive manufacturing facility. This hands-on leadership role is responsible for overseeing production, maintenance coordination, logistics, laboratory support, and overall plant performance while ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant manufacturing operations.
The ideal candidate is a strong shop floor leader with prior manufacturing supervisory experience, excellent mechanical aptitude, and the ability to troubleshoot production issues in real time. This individual will lead by example, hold employees accountable, communicate effectively across departments, and drive continuous improvement in safety, quality, and production performance. Automotive manufacturing experience is strongly preferred.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Lead all night shift manufacturing operations, including production, maintenance coordination, logistics, and laboratory support.
- Serve as the primary operational leader for the facility during the night shift.
- Supervise, coach, and develop night shift personnel while maintaining accountability for safety, attendance, quality, and productivity.
- Maintain a strong presence on the production floor and provide hands-on support when needed.
- Troubleshoot equipment, production, and process issues to minimize downtime and maintain production flow.
- Operate manufacturing equipment as necessary to support operations.
- Monitor production performance, staffing levels, material flow, and adherence to established manufacturing procedures.
- Coordinate with maintenance, logistics, and laboratory teams to ensure uninterrupted production.
- Ensure compliance with safety procedures, quality standards, operating procedures, control plans, and customer requirements.
- Escalate significant production, maintenance, safety, staffing, or quality issues to plant leadership as needed.
- Support staffing adjustments, work assignments, and shift coverage to meet operational demands.
- Address employee performance, attendance, and disciplinary matters in accordance with company policies.
- Lead or support incident investigations and corrective actions related to safety and production issues.
- Review downtime, scrap, quality concerns, and production disruptions to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Prepare detailed end-of-shift reports ("night letters") summarizing production results, staffing updates, downtime, quality concerns, maintenance activity, safety issues, and outstanding action items.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, quality, safety, and operational efficiency.
Basic Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of manufacturing, industrial operations, or production experience.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Previous supervisory, lead, or manufacturing leadership experience.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot manufacturing equipment and production issues.
- Experience operating within process-driven manufacturing environments.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, email, spreadsheets, and production reporting systems.
- Ability to work onsite on a permanent night shift schedule.
Additional Qualifications
- Experience within regulated manufacturing environments.
- Automotive manufacturing experience strongly preferred.
- Associate degree, technical certification, or additional manufacturing training.
- Experience working with quality documentation, control plans, and standardized operating procedures.
- Experience leading cross-functional manufacturing teams and coordinating production support functions.
