Job Summary
As a Summer Intern, you will support the safety team in promoting and maintaining a safe work environment on heavy civil construction projects. This role is designed to provide exposure to construction safety practices, regulatory compliance, and day-to-day field operations. The intern will work closely with project teams and safety professionals to learn how safety is integrated into every stage of project execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in monitoring safety programs to ensure compliance with OSHA standards and company policies.
- Participate in site walks, inspections, and safety audits to identify and report potential hazards.
- Support the documentation of safety observations, incidents, and corrective actions.
- Help prepare and deliver safety toolbox talks and training sessions.
- Assist in reviewing and updating site-specific safety plans.
- Learn and practice proper incident reporting and investigation processes.
- Observe and support coordination of drug testing and safety certifications.
- Gain exposure to collaborating with project managers, supervisors, and crews on safety-related matters.
- Promote a culture of safety through participation in team meetings and field activities.
Qualifications
- Pursuing a degree in Safety Management, Occupational Safety & Health, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong interest in safety and heavy civil construction.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Eagerness to learn and work in a hands-on, outdoor environment.
- Ability to adapt to changing conditions and work collaboratively in a team setting.
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office preferred).
- Reliable transportation to and from project sites.
