Job Summary
General Motors is seeking a highly skilled Senior Robotic Simulation Engineer to design and develop high-fidelity simulation environments and synthetic data pipelines for next-generation robotics applications. This role is critical in enabling the training and validation of robotic foundation models across perception, planning, and manipulation domains within manufacturing environments.
You will work closely with cross-functional teams in Robotics, AI, and Manufacturing Technology Development (MTD) to build scalable virtual worlds, generate diverse datasets, and accelerate model development and deployment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and customize high-fidelity simulation environments using NVIDIA Isaac Sim or similar platforms
- Develop and maintain synthetic data generation pipelines, including randomized scenarios and multi-modal data (RGB, depth, segmentation, point clouds)
- Create and manage data processing workflows ensuring quality, traceability, and ML pipeline compatibility
- Optimize simulation performance, including physics tuning, rendering, and asset fidelity
- Collaborate with robotics and AI teams to support sim-to-real (Sim2Real) transfer
- Conduct testing, debugging, and iterative improvements to enhance simulation accuracy and model robustness
- Document processes and establish best practices for reproducibility and scalability
Required Qualifications
- Strong hands-on experience with robotic simulation tools (Isaac Sim preferred)
- Expertise in synthetic data generation and simulation environments
- Solid programming skills in Python/C
- Experience working with machine learning pipelines and data workflows
- Strong understanding of robotics systems, perception, and simulation physics
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with ROS/ROS2, MoveIt, Nav2
- Familiarity with simulation/game engines such as Isaac Sim, Gazebo, MuJoCo, Unreal, or Unity
- Background in industrial automation, robotics, or autonomous systems
- Exposure to CI/CD tools and modern development practices (GitHub, Docker, Bazel, Bash)
- Contributions to robotics or AI research (ICRA, RSS, CVPR, etc.)
