What are the responsibilities and job description for the Junior Project Engineer position at Global Computer Systems?
About the Role
Global Computer Systems is looking for a motivated, early-career IT professional ready to take the next step in their engineering journey. This role is designed for someone with a few years of hands-on IT experience who wants to grow into a true infrastructure engineer touching real projects, real technology, and real client environments across the New York Metro area.
You will work alongside senior engineers on infrastructure, security, and cloud projects from day one. If you are the type of person who asks questions, digs into problems, and puts in the extra effort to understand how something works rather than just making it work, this role is built for you.
What You'll Be Responsible For
- Support senior engineers in the end-to-end delivery of infrastructure and cybersecurity projects
- Assist with Azure environment builds, configurations, and migrations
- Deploy and configure Windows Server infrastructure (AD, GPO, DNS, DHCP)
- Support network deployments and configurations (Fortinet, Meraki, Cisco)
- Assist with security control implementations including EDR, firewalls, and email security
- Support backup and disaster recovery deployments (Veeam)
- Maintain accurate project documentation and client network diagrams
- Contribute to knowledge transfer between project and service desk teams
- Handle escalated support tickets as a bridge into structured project work
Required Qualifications
- 2-3 years of experience in IT support or a junior engineering role (MSP experience a plus)
- Foundational knowledge of Windows Server and Active Directory
- Working knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, VLANs, DNS, DHCP)
- Basic understanding of cybersecurity concepts (firewalls, MFA, endpoint protection)
- Genuine curiosity and hunger to learn new technologies
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to execute on defined tasks independently and know when to ask for guidance
Preferred Technical Exposure
- Microsoft Azure (VMs, Entra ID, M365 — any level of exposure)
- Windows Server
- Fortinet or Meraki
- Veeam or similar backup platforms
- NinjaRMM or similar RMM tools
- CrowdStrike or similar EDR platforms
What Success Looks Like
- Assigned tasks completed on time with minimal rework
- Proactively learning from senior engineers and applying it independently
- Clean, accurate documentation on every project touched
- Growing technical depth across multiple domains over time
- Consistently going beyond the minimum — asking the next question, solving the next problem
Why This Role Matters
This is a direct investment in the future of our engineering team. You will be mentored by experienced infrastructure engineers, exposed to a wide range of client environments and technologies, and given increasing ownership as you demonstrate capability. For the right person, this is a launchpad not a ceiling.
