GLO Resources is currently hiring a Horizontal Directional Drill Operator with the flexibility to work in Reno and Carson City, NV. The pay is $26 - $40 per hour based on experience, plus $50 per diem and hotel accommodation. This position works 4 weeks on and 1 week off, with a 7-day work week.
Position Summary: The ideal candidate will be responsible for utilizing in-house directional drilling equipment to execute bore plans that involve installing underground piping, conduit, cable, and fiber. The role involves daily travel to various job sites to survey, plan, and complete bore installations while ensuring the safety, quality, and timely completion of each project. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of directional drilling processes, underground utility installation, and the operation of relevant equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create and execute directional drill plans based on blueprints and site analysis
- Operate directional drills (JT20 and JT24) and related equipment safely and efficiently
- Read and interpret utility prints and bore logs
- Inspect drill site progress to ensure alignment with project timelines
- Identify and mark utility lines; manage traffic control and permitting needs
- Perform daily inspections and basic maintenance of vehicles, trailers, and equipment
- Conduct safety checks and minor repairs; clean and winterize equipment as needed
- Utilize hand tools, power tools, and motorized equipment to complete job tasks
- Coordinate daily with supervisors to submit reports and updates
- Adhere to all safety standards, including OSHA and ANSI guidelines
- Assist with equipment setup, including attaching reamers, swivels, etc.
- May be assigned other duties
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Valid U.S. driver’s license required; Class A CDL with tanker and hazmat endorsements preferred
- Minimum 1 year of directional drilling and equipment operation experience
- HDD certifications preferred
- Strong understanding of directional drilling techniques, underground utility installation, and locating
- Familiarity with telecommunications infrastructure is a plus
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and utility prints
- Skilled in operating directional drills, locators, trenchers, backhoes, and excavators
- Basic knowledge of power systems, grounding, and strike alert protocols
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and safely in a fast-paced environment
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift up to 80 pounds.
- Ability to stand, sit, bend, twist, and reach throughout the workday.
- Capable of working in outdoor environments and all-weather conditions (rain, snow, heat, etc.).
- Frequent and extended travel may be required (2 consecutive weeks), including air, bus, or vehicle transportation.
- Must pass a pre-employment background check, drug screen, and other job-related screenings.
