Director of Sales And Business Development

Glass Design
Fort Myers, FL Full Time
POSTED ON 9/14/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 3/12/2027

About You

You know how to win a room better than almost anyone. Now you want to spend your energy building a team that can do it too.

You've run plenty of those conversations yourself, so you know exactly what a strong one looks like. But what you actually want is to build the team that runs it as well as you do: coaching reps until they close like you would, running a rhythm that holds people accountable without babysitting them, and reporting honestly to leadership on what's working and what isn't. You're just as comfortable opening a new door with a designer, an architect, or a builder as you are walking a homeowner through a $40,000 entry that's going to be the thing their neighbors ask about. You want a seat at the table, not just a territory.

About Glass Design

Glass Design is Southwest Florida's specialist in custom doors and designer glass, a family owned, second generation business marking 30 years in 2026. Founded in 1996 and led since 2007 by CEO Bonnie Doughty, we've grown to two showrooms (Fort Myers and Naples), a fully in-house installation crew that's never subcontracted, more than 10,000 homes served, and over 450 five star reviews. Our promise, "From Design to Install… We Do It ALL," isn't a slogan. Design consultation, custom fabrication, and installation all happen under one roof, by people who work here.

We compete on trust and exceptional experiences, not price. If a customer only needs a glass insert instead of a whole new door, we tell them that. It's the smaller sale, and it's still the right one. "Say No to Average" is a standard we hold ourselves to, not a slogan aimed at anyone else. That honesty and experience is why people refer their neighbors, and it's the culture this role is responsible for protecting as the sales team grows. We run on EOS. Our core values aren't wall art:

•     We Choose Optimism

•     We Do the Right Thing

•     We Embrace Continuous Learning

•     We Relentlessly Pursue Improvement

•     We Get Sh!t Done

These are how decisions actually get made here, from the showroom floor to the leadership table. Two priorities matter most right now: evolving our sales process to meet clients where they are, and growing our B2B/trade relationships with designers, architects, and builders. This role owns that growth directly.

About the Role

The Director of Sales & Business Development sits on Glass Design's leadership team, reporting directly to our CEO, Bonnie Doughty. You'll own the sales number, lead and coach the sales team, run our daily powwows and weekly Sales L10, and drive new business, including rebuilding a B2B/trade channel (designers, architects, builders) that's a genuine growth priority for the company right now.

Day to day, you're leading, coaching, and building the sales function, not carrying a full appointment load of your own. For now, you'll be the second person in the showroom until we bring on our next Design Consultant, so you'll run a sales appointment yourself when the team needs the help. That's not just coverage: it's also how you stay current on the actual customer experience, not removed from it. You need to be genuinely capable of running a full sales appointment and performing Lead Development at a high level, because you can't coach what you can't do yourself.

What You'll Do

Daily: run the sales powwow; stay close to the pipeline in Quickbase; coach in the moment when a rep needs it; run a sales appointment yourself when the showroom needs the help.

Weekly: run the Sales L10; participate in the Leadership L10; lead sales role plays; hold the team accountable to their reachouts and metrics; review the scorecard with the team; report honestly to the leadership team on where the number stands.

Monthly: review B2B/trade pipeline progress; adjust strategy around seasonal demand; develop the team's weakest skill area deliberately, not by accident.

Quarterly and Annually: participate in quarterly and annual planning, setting the sales team's targets and priorities in line with company goals.

Ongoing: build and protect Glass Design's honest, consultative selling standard across the team; grow the trade channel from the ground up; keep finding ways AI can make the sales function faster and sharper.

A Day in the Life

Your morning starts with the daily powwow, a quick, focused check in on what's moving and what's stuck. Before the floor gets busy, you touch base with your Sales Manager, who runs day to day floor support, to align on who needs coaching today and who's falling short on activity. One rep is nervous about a big iron door appointment this afternoon; you spend ten minutes running the conversation with them. Midmorning, you're in Quickbase reviewing the pipeline, and you notice trade channel activity has gone quiet for two weeks. You make a note to personally reach out to an architect you've been building a relationship with. After lunch, you prep for Wednesday's Sales L10, pulling the scorecard together and being honest with yourself about which number needs a hard conversation, not a soft one. Late afternoon, a rep flags a lead dev process gap: leads aren't getting called back fast enough. Because you've done that job yourself, you know exactly what "good" looks like and how to fix it before it becomes a lost deal pattern. On your way out, you check back in with your Sales Manager on how accountability is landing with the team, since keeping the floor supported and the team held to standard is something the two of you own together, not something either of you carries alone. You end the day having coached more than you sold, and that's exactly as it should be.

What the Right Person Looks Like

This is a big seat, and it's not for everyone. Glass Design's vision is to keep building on 30 years of trust: growing our brand's reach, our B2B and trade presence, and a real bench of leaders who can carry the company forward. The right person for this role doesn't just want a job. They want to join an awesome team and help take Glass Design to the next level. Specifically, this person:

•     Thinks like a leadership team member, not just a sales manager, weighing what's right for the whole company rather than their own number, and is genuinely comfortable sitting at that table.

•     Is still growing on purpose, professionally and personally, and expects to keep learning long after they've "made it."

•     Leads people the way they'd want to be led: respected, coached, and held to a real standard, in strong months and slow ones alike.

•     Owns the sales number like it's theirs, not the company's, willing to make more calls, build B2B relationships personally, and try something outside the playbook when the obvious move isn't working.

•     Will still run a sales appointment or step into Lead Development personally, without complaint, for as long as the business needs it, not just during a transition period.

•     Reads a room and a person well: steady and clear headed when a teammate is upset or defensive, not just when things are easy.

•     Actually keeps up with the numbers: the scorecard, the reporting, the weekly rhythm, and holds the team to them consistently, not just when it's convenient.

What We're Looking For

Must have:

•     A genuine track record of personally closing high ticket, consultative sales, with a real example you can walk us through in detail

•     Real experience leading, coaching, and developing a sales team, not just managing a territory

•     Demonstrated ability to build a B2B/trade or partnership channel from limited or no existing infrastructure

•     Comfort owning a sales number in front of a leadership team, including when the news is bad

•     Working fluency in a CRM and in running a disciplined sales process

Strong preference:

•     Experience in a high ticket, design led, or home improvement/construction sales environment

•     EOS familiarity (L10s, Rocks, scorecards) or experience in a similarly structured operating system

•     Genuine, integrated use of AI tools in sales work: research, prep, and reporting

•     Experience specifically with designers, architects, or builders as a customer or partner channel
