OVERVIEW:
Glacier seeks TWO full-time, year-round Assistant Superintendents for our Course Maintenance department, with an emphasis on Irrigation-related duties. These positions, under the supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent and the First Golf Course Superintendent, are responsible for the complete operation and maintenance of the golf course irrigation system and its properties. The employees in these positions apply their expertise in the maintenance and planning of large-scale landscape irrigation systems, both directly and in helping to guide the work of others. ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Assists Golf Course Superintendent and AGCS in the programming, operation, and maintenance of the central irrigation computer system and subsequent satellites.

Conducts morning evaluation of golf course irrigation, including pump station checks to determine previous irrigation cycle success.

Records daily water usage from pump stations for comparison and logs.

Evaluates proper operation of all pump stations and communicates with Golf Course Superintendent as to required work and preventative maintenance.

Maintains and repairs the installed golf course irrigation system, including heads, pipe, valves, wire, etc.

Supervises and participates in additional irrigation installations and drainage projects.

Conducts winterization and start-up of irrigation system and pump stations.

Works with Water Plant Supervisor to ensure adequate allocation of water needs and aesthetic quality of all ponds on property.

Supervises and directs a changing labor force when needed (i.e. hand watering, installations, etc).

Communicates with AGCS to schedule manpower and resources with regards to irrigation needs.

Advises on other irrigation systems on site (clubhouse, landscape, domestic, etc).

Keeps inventory of all irrigation parts, fittings, and accessories.

Operates specialized equipment, such as trencher, skid steer, and backhoe.

Reports any irregularities in course turf quality to Golf Course Superintendent or AGCS.

Participates in snow removal activities including scheduling, procedures, cleanup, preparation, and implementation.

Performs other duties as directed by his/her supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Working knowledge of basic electricity and hydraulics related to an irrigation system; basic understanding of agronomy and turf grass science; understanding of the game of golf and preparation techniques for play; ability to operate light and medium duty equipment; record keeping and basic computer skills; supervisory skills; 3 years golf course maintenance and irrigation experience; valid driver’s license.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Physical activity is moderate to demanding and will require bending, kneeling, and lifting. Must be able to lift and carry up to 70 pounds. Must be able to use hand and power tools, such as a shovel or a chainsaw. Must be able to walk around golf course, hand dig holes or trenches with a shovel, and sit on and operate golf carts, utility vehicles, tractors, and mowers.
Mental activity includes intermediate math skills for calculating data figures important to golf course and irrigation systems maintenance. Must be able to remember information important to maintenance programs; read, write, and verbally communicate with employees, management, members, and public. Must use a high level of concentration because of the danger of equipment used for testing electricity and pressurized systems.
Salary : $66,500 - $70,000
