Position Summary
The Lead Custodian/Maintenance Technician ensures the school building and grounds remain clean, safe, and well-maintained throughout the year. This position performs daily custodial work, routine facility maintenance, and coordinates building upkeep needs. The role also provides leadership for custodial operations and works closely with the School Director on facility priorities.
Key Responsibilities
Year-Round Custodial Duties
- Clean classrooms, hallways, restrooms, offices, cafeteria, and common areas daily.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, wax, and buff floors as needed.
- Disinfect surfaces and maintain high-touch areas.
- Empty trash and recycling and restock restroom supplies.
- Maintain outdoor areas, including light groundskeeping and seasonal cleanup.
General Maintenance Duties
- Perform minor repairs including basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and HVAC troubleshooting.
- Conduct routine safety and facility inspections.
- Coordinate external contractors for repairs beyond in-house capability.
- Report facility concerns promptly and keep accurate maintenance logs.
Summer Duties
- Deep clean all classrooms, offices, and common spaces.
- Wax and refinish floors.
- Touch up paint and repair walls, fixtures, and furniture.
- Complete minor building updates and preventative maintenance tasks.
- Prepare the building for the upcoming school year.
- Coordinate with additional seasonal help hired for lawn maintenance.
Leadership & Coordination
- Serve as the primary point of contact for custodial operations.
- Assist with task assignment and workflow coordination.
- Maintain supply inventory and order needed materials.
- Ensure work is completed to school safety and cleanliness standards.
- Communicate regularly with the School Director about facility needs and priorities.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Prior custodial and/or facility maintenance experience required; school experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of basic repair and maintenance skills.
- Strong organization, communication, and time-management abilities.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical labor in varied conditions.
