The Maintenance Mechanic I (Mechanic Assistant) supports the Maintenance Department in maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing food processing equipment to help minimize downtime and ensure efficient plant operations. This position assists mechanics with preventive maintenance, equipment inspections, and shop organization while maintaining a safe and clean work environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assist mechanics in diagnosing equipment and machinery issues to minimize operational downtime.
Support planned maintenance and preventive maintenance programs.
Assist with routine maintenance procedures and equipment repairs.
Help maintain an organized parts room and accurate parts inventory.
Organize tools and maintain a safe, clean, and functional maintenance shop area.
Aid mechanics with equipment inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs.
Follow all company safety procedures and food safety standards.
Maintain flexibility to support operational needs, including weekends and holidays as required.
Qualifications
Minimum of 1 year of experience in maintenance or a related field preferred.
Previous food processing equipment experience is a plus.
Bilingual in Spanish and English is a plus.
Basic understanding of hand and power tools.
Ability to follow instructions and work effectively in a team environment.
Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift and maneuver heavy tools and parts, frequently up to 50 lbs.
Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work in a production environment for extended periods.
Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays when needed.
