Responsibilities
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments, setting up dental tools, and ensuring all equipment is functioning properly in accordance with aseptic techniques.
- Assist dentists during various procedures including restorations, endodontics, prosthodontics, and pediatric dentistry, providing chairside support with efficiency and professionalism.
- Take and develop dental X-rays using digital imaging systems such as X-ray machines and 3D scanners while ensuring patient safety and comfort.
- Manage patient records by updating medical and dental histories within EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems like Dentrix or Eaglesoft, ensuring HIPAA compliance at all times.
- Educate patients on oral hygiene practices, post-treatment care, and explain treatment plans using clear dental terminology.
- Monitor vital signs of patients when necessary, especially in pediatric dentistry or medical-dental integration cases, maintaining accurate medical documentation.
- Support front desk operations by assisting with scheduling appointments, verifying insurance information, and managing medical records efficiently.
Skills
- Proficiency in EMR systems such as Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Epic for accurate documentation and record keeping.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control protocols, and aseptic techniques to ensure patient safety.
- Experience with dental assisting procedures including chairside assisting across general dentistry disciplines and specialized fields like endodontics or prosthodontics.
- Ability to operate dental imaging equipment including X-ray machines and 3D scanners while adhering to safety standards.
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations to protect patient privacy and confidentiality at all times.
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with dentists, hygienists, receptionists, and patients of all ages—especially pediatrics.
