About Girls Ment To Be

Girls Ment To Be is a community-based nonprofit dedicated to empowering girls ages 7–17 through mentorship, leadership development, academic support, and family engagement. Our programs provide safe, supportive environments where girls build confidence, develop leadership skills, and reach their full potential.

We're seeking a passionate, organized leader to serve as our Mentoring Program Lead. This volunteer leadership role is ideal for someone who enjoys coaching others, building relationships, and helping ensure a high-quality mentoring experience for both mentors and mentees.

Position Summary

The Mentoring Program Lead oversees and supports our volunteer mentors by providing guidance, maintaining engagement, and ensuring consistency throughout the mentoring program. This role works closely with the Program Coordinator to strengthen mentor relationships and promote successful mentoring outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor mentor check-ins and engagement throughout the program year.
  • Serve as a point of contact for mentors by offering encouragement, guidance, and support.
  • Identify mentor challenges and collaborate with the Program Coordinator to develop solutions.
  • Coordinate biweekly group mentoring sessions and mentor meetings.
  • Assist with mentor onboarding, training, and ongoing communication.
  • Help ensure mentoring standards, expectations, and program policies are followed.
  • Maintain mentor engagement records and communicate updates with the program team.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and supportive mentoring culture.

Desired Qualifications

  • Leadership, supervisory, or team management experience preferred.
  • Experience mentoring, coaching, teaching, training, volunteer management, or youth development is a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Organized with excellent time management and follow-through.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism.
  • Passion for empowering youth and strengthening communities.
  • Reliable and committed to supporting volunteers throughout the program year.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Successfully complete a background check.
  • Attend volunteer orientation and required training.
