Lead Counselor
Position Description: The Lead Counselor oversees the daily operations of assigned camp units, ensuring safe, fun, and age-appropriate programming that aligns with the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. This role supervises and mentors Unit Counselors, monitors camper and staff well-being, and supports the camp’s mission by fostering a positive, inclusive, and growth-focused environment. The Lead Counselor works closely with camp leadership to maintain consistency, strong communication, and high standards of camper care and program delivery.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee staff as they plan, prepare, and facilitate camp activities that meet campers’ needs and interests.
- Provide guidance on positive behavior-management techniques and assist staff in resolving camper conflicts safely.
- Model and reinforce expectations for cleanliness, hygiene, punctuality, respect, appropriate language, and appropriate attire.
- Offer ongoing coaching, mentorship, and support to staff to strengthen program quality and camper care.
- Support campers in developing responsibility, respect, and problem-solving skills.
- Maintain open communication with counselors and camp leadership regarding concerns or ongoing issues.
- Minimum Age: 21.
- High School diploma or the equivalent.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working with youth, preferably in a camp, school, or recreational setting.
- Current certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED or willingness to complete a certification course.
- Maintain physical health and stamina required to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and lift up to 40 lbs.
- Commit to all 4 weeks plus the additional training week.
