Responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing all aspects of a Girl Scout camp program, including activity planning, staff supervision, camper safety, and ensuring a positive, educational, and girl-led experience while adhering to Girl Scout guidelines and standards at the camp facility. Must be available on weekends and willing to work up to 6 days in a calendar week.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:

  • Coordinate and participate in camper meetings, all-camp events, and first and last-night campfires.
  • Coordinate and attend weekly Unit Leader/Program Director (UL/PD) planning meetings.
  • Manage schedules for all overnight camps, day camps, and troop camps (including planning activities and assigning staff) with the support of the Assistant Camp Director and each camp’s specific director.
  • Coordinate schedules of program areas (i.e.- archery, arts and crafts, barn, ropes courses, etc.).
  • Directly supervise all applicable Specialty Program Leaders and Specialty Program Coordinators, including coaching and evaluating.
  • Follow and maintain all safety and cleaning protocols, including sanitation schedules, safety guidelines, and procedures for all camp facilities, and lead/direct others to do the same.
  • Live on-site for the duration (excluding time off) and be available for overnight needs and “on-call” weekends when staff are still working, whether on-camp or on an off-camp trip.
  • Assist unit staff with unit duties as needed.
  • Prepare requested supplies for arts and crafts and nature programs and conduct inventories of program supplies, placing orders in a timely manner.
  • Assist in the openings and closings of the camp.
  • Notify Camp Director immediately of any serious injury, illness, or near-miss.
  • Prepare necessary reports on camp operations and activities during the camp season and make recommendations for the following season.
  • Demonstrate and promote a climate of courtesy and professionalism to coworkers, the volunteers served by this council, and others with whom their job puts them in contact.
  • Collaborate with fellow members of the administrative team to ensure staff are supported and camp is running smoothly.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive information.
  • Adhere to Council’s Affirmative Action Policy, which ensures that there will be no discrimination on the basis of race, color, ethnicity, sex, creed, national origin, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, disability or age.
  • Adhere to all council policies and procedures and the standards of the American Camp Association and other local or state agencies.
  • Other duties as required.

EDUCATION l WORK EXPERIENCE l CERTIFICATIONS

Minimum Education (or substitute experience) required:

  • High School Diploma or GED

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Experience teaching age-appropriate lessons to children.
  • Experience overseeing multiple specialty program areas (e.g. arts & crafts, high ropes, STEM, or horseback riding)
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Girl Scout knowledge.

Required Skills:

  • Ability to keep supervisor informed and aware of activities and/or problems with area of work.
  • Ability to work within established procedures and to recognize the important responsibilities of the position.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and physically meet the demands of camp life.
  • Ability to provide for the health and safety of campers and staff.
  • Ability to manage time effectively, work independently, and handle several projects at the same time.
  • Must be able to comprehend and practice all safety protocols and cleaning schedules for all Council and camp facilities.
  • Teamwork and willingness to work outside of standard job duties for the betterment of the staff team as a whole.
  • Demonstrate a demeanor that enables instruction and appropriate correction of behaviors and practices that expose others to safety threats or immediate harm.
  • Ability to work with adults and children regardless of age, race, disability, religion, ethnicity, or socioeconomic background.
  • Possess a positive attitude and be flexible, responsible, patient, and enthusiastic

Minimum License, Certifications & Affiliations/Memberships and CEU’s:

  • Maintain throughout employment a driver’s license valid in the state of California and insurability through Council Carrier.
  • Must successfully complete a criminal history background check and fingerprinting.
  • Valid Wilderness First Aid/CPR certification through a verified provider.

For 2026, camp staff will have the opportunity to work at one of our 3 amazing camp properties! While Skyland Ranch will act as your home base for the summer season, you may be assigned to work a Troop Camp session at Azalea Trails or a Day Camp session at Wi-Wo-Ca! A typical week at Skyland Ranch begins with staff check-in at 8:00 AM on Mondays and conclude with a weekly wrap-up meeting after dinner on Fridays. Weekend programs range from 1.5-hour horse meet-and-greets to 2-day (Saturday to Sunday) family overnights.


Our summer season for staff runs from as early as June 1st for some positions, and can go as late as August 1st. Due to the diverse range of summer programs we're offering, we ask our staff to be available all 7 days during the week and will receive at least 24 hours off each week.
