Harvest Operations Supervisor
Location: Giorgi Mushroom Co Park Rd Rear, Blandon PA 19510
Reports To: Harvesting Manager
Position Summary
The Harvest Operations Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily mushroom harvesting activities and coordinating the transfer of harvested mushrooms to external packing and distribution facilities. This role supervises a team of supervisors, group leaders, and harvesters, ensuring efficiency, quality, and compliance with food safety and hygiene standards.
Essential Functions
Supervision & Team Management
- Directly supervise supervisors, group leaders, and harvesters, ensuring safe and efficient operations.
- Provide training and guidance on proper harvesting techniques, handling, and food safety practices.
- Monitor team performance, attendance, and productivity to meet operational goals.
- Address performance or behavioral issues and escalate to management as needed.
- Foster a positive work environment with effective communication and accountability.
Harvesting Operations
- Oversee mushroom harvesting, ensuring proper timing and handling to maximize product quality and shelf life.
- Ensure compliance with SOPs, HACCP, GMPs, and other food safety regulations.
- Inspect harvested mushrooms for quality, size, and condition.
- Maintain harvesting tools and equipment to ensure safety and functionality.
Production Logistics
- Coordinate the timely transfer of harvested mushrooms to external packing and distribution plants.
- Maintain accurate records of harvested volumes, yields, and transfers.
- Collaborate with external facilities and internal teams to align schedules and ensure smooth operations.
Safety, Compliance & Quality
- Enforce workplace safety standards and ensure compliance with OSHA and food safety regulations.
- Ensure proper use of PPE and safe work practices across all levels of the harvesting team.
- Conduct regular inspections of harvesting and storage areas.
- Support food safety programs and assist in audits as required.
Continuous Improvement & Reporting
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, yield, and quality in harvesting and transfer operations.
- Provide feedback to the Harvesting Manager on operational challenges, resource needs, and team performance.
- Maintain accurate documentation of daily operations, employee attendance, and production metrics.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Experience supervising teams in fresh food production or agricultural harvesting (3–5 years preferred).
- Strong leadership, communication, and multi-level team management skills.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is required.
- Knowledge of food safety standards (HACCP, GMP, SQF, BRC) and workplace safety regulations.
- Experience in production planning, scheduling, and logistics coordination.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to work in cool, humid, climate-controlled growing areas.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks with precision and care.
