Role Description The Part-time Preschool Teacher will create and lead developmentally appropriate lessons and activities for young children in an on-site classroom setting in Glen Allen, VA. This role includes planning and implementing daily schedules, including circle time, learning centers, creative play, and outdoor activities. The teacher will supervise children at all times, promote positive behavior, and support social and emotional learning through clear routines and gentle guidance. Responsibilities include preparing classroom materials, maintaining a clean and safe learning environment, and following health and safety procedures. The teacher will also communicate regularly with families and collaborate with other staff members to support each child’s progress and ensure a welcoming, inclusive classroom c
ommunity.This position will lead a class for the 2026-27 school year. This class will meet weekly 3 days per week. Base work hours are 8:30 am to 12:30 pm. The student to teacher ratio is capped at 10:1. GBC follows Henrico public schools calendar and is closed during the summer. Teachers work mid-August through mid-May. There is an opportunity for additional pay beyond the pay for normal school operating hours if the teacher participates in our early drop off program or after school kids club program. Staff are also paid for weekly planning time, staff meetings and 16 hours of mandatory yearly professional development training. GBC also provides paid sick leave time for employees beginning year two.
Qualifications
- Experience working with preschool-aged children in a classroom, childcare, or similar setting, with a strong interest in early childhood education.
- Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices, early learning standards, and play-based learning approaches.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to build positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues.
- Ability to maintain a safe, organized, and engaging classroom environment, including managing routines, transitions, and behavior in a calm and consistent manner.
- Reliability and professionalism, including punctuality, teamwork, and adherence to school policies and licensing requirements.
- High school diploma or equivalent paired with previous experience in a licensed childcare center (required); OR coursework or degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field (preferred).
- Ability to meet physical requirements of the role, including standing, bending, and safely assisting children, as well as passing required background checks and health clearances.
