Substitute Translator

** On-Call Substitute Translator**

Intended for Interpretation- Bilingual/Biliterate in Spanish required

This substitute performs interpretation services, accompanying the District Enrollment Specialist to home visits.

Basic Functions:   Under the direction of the assigned administrator, a substitute employee in this classification is one who is hired with the understanding that his/her association with Gilroy Unified School District will be as an on-call sub as needed basis.   Substitute employees are paid at an hourly rate, as determined by the district.  

Typical Duties: (to include but not limited to)

• Accompany the District Enrollment Specialist on home visits within the city limits to provide interpretation services (Spanish/English)
• Performs varied and responsible translation duties to assist in the coordination and processing of routine administration operations within the assigned department

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

• Speak, read and write English and Spanish fluently
• Maintain confidentiality pertaining to all district matters
• Communicate effectively and professionally in oral and written form
• Interpret for staff and parents by phone, and home visits
• Establish positive working relationships with all district personnel

 Working Conditions:

• Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate computer equipment to type letters, and other materials; bending; and sitting for extended periods of time necessary to operate computer equipment and enter information
• Moderate to high stress level

 Environmental Conditions:

• Indoor/Outdoor office environment/Remote Locations
• Temperature- normal climate to extreme temperatures (heat/cold), weather exposure, noise levels, humidity during home visits

Physical Demands:

• Ability to sit for sustained periods of time
• Sufficient hearing to conduct in-person and telephone conversations
• Sufficient mobility to move about the site and on home visits
