Job Description
Description of Basic Functions and Responsibilities: To assist a kindergarten teacher to achieve teaching objectives by working with individual students or small groups to help them achieve the skill levels of the class as a whole.
Typical Duties:
- Deliver specialized instruction to small groups of students as guided by school staff and teacher
- Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher
- Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests and abilities
- Guides independent study, enrichment work and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher
- Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods and field trips
- Reads to students, listens to students read, and participates in other forms of oral communications with students
- Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers
- Participates in in-service training program, as assigned
- Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.
Employment Standards:
- Knowledge of English usage, vocabulary, grammar and spelling
- Give oral and written direction
- Ability to speak, read, and write in English
- Ability to compute basic math calculations
- Have 48 college units or an AA degree or higher
