Description

The Gillett School District is seeking four caring, patient, and skilled Paraprofessionals to join our dedicated team. This position supports the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs of students—particularly those receiving special education services—by working under the direct supervision of teachers and specialists. The paraprofessional will assist with classroom instruction, student supervision, and individualized support to help all students succeed in a safe and engaging learning environment.

Job Goal

To assist teaching staff in achieving instructional objectives by working with individual students or small groups, helping them reach skill levels comparable to their peers, and providing supervision and support in a variety of educational settings.

Qualifications

  • Follow district, building, and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the instruction of students with disabilities individually and in small groups.
  • Provide instructional assistance and help prepare materials for special education students.
  • Perform clerical tasks such as monitoring online coursework, collecting data, and progress monitoring.
  • Supervise students in school and community settings, including playground, cafeteria, study hall, and bus loading.
  • Participate in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) training.
  • Guide student independent study, enrichment activities, and remedial work as assigned by teachers.
  • Treat all students, staff, parents, and community members with respect, compassion, and patience.
  • Encourage and model appropriate behavior.
  • Provide behavioral management support, including supervising breaks, managing conflicts, enforcing rules, and motivating students.
  • Support student daily living needs such as toileting, feeding/eating, dressing, mobility, and other personal care, when necessary.
  • Perform delegated health care procedures under the supervision of the school nurse.
  • Willingness to obtain DPI licensing.
  • Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team and independently.
  • Strong reading, math, technology, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Maintain professional boundaries while building supportive relationships with students.
  • Physical mobility to assist with student lifts, crisis intervention, and movement within the educational environment.
  • Actively participate in ongoing training to enhance skills and teamwork.
  • Implement strategies, supports, procedures, and routines under teacher supervision.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student and family information in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Meet regularly with teachers to share observations, report concerns, and assist in planning supports.
  • Performance Responsibilities

Instructional:

  • Under teacher supervision, work with individuals or small groups to reinforce learning and practice skills.
  • Assist in developing special strategies and materials tailored to student needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial activities as assigned.
  • Provide support in various school settings such as the library/media center, physical education, art, and music.

Student Support & Supervision:

  • Assist in classroom, hallway, cafeteria, playground, and bus area supervision.
  • Provide personal care, accommodations, and physical intervention when necessary.
  • Help manage classroom routines, promote positive behavior, and ensure student safety.

Other Duties:

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervising teachers or administrators.
  • Uphold high ethical standards and maintain confidentiality at all times.

Work Schedule & Compensation

  • Follows the school calendar.
  • Full-time or part-time considered.
  • Competitive hourly wage based on experience and qualifications; benefits available for eligible employees.

Pay: From $15.50 per hour
