Essential Functions- Ability to perform general physical activities that require considerable use of arms, hands, and fingers to manipulate office equipment, machines, and materials. Duties and ResponsibilitiesAdvisor/Student Support employees are expected to perform any or all duties listed below in a safe, efficient, and effective manner. - Provide academic advice to current and prospective students on course selection, degree planning, transfer options, and college policies.
- Assist students in developing personalized education plans and track their progress toward graduation.
- Support new student orientation and first-year experience programs.
- Monitor student performance and proactively reach out to students experiencing academic difficulties.
- As necessary, act as a contact or resource to students needing ADA accommodation services.
- Refer students to appropriate campus resources to assist with their educational goal achievement.
- Provide assistance to students needing to utilize Library resources.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student records in compliance with FERPA and College policies.
- Participate in student success initiatives, retention efforts, and advising-related workshops.
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administrators to improve student services and academic pathways.
- Perform similar duties not specifically listed as directed.
Qualifications and Education Requirements- A combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities that will enable success in position responsibilities.
- 1–2 years of experience in student advising, counseling, or higher education support services.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to pass a background screening process and/or obtain a Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card is necessary.
Preferred Skills- Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, social work, or a closely related field.
- Experience working at a community college or open enrollment institution.
- Familiarity with and understanding of safe work practices particularly when performing general physical activities within an office environment.
Work EnvironmentDuties are performed in a typical office environment within generally climate-controlled structures. Exposure to moderate noise levels is anticipated. Exposure to moderate to heavy office traffic levels with possible frequent interruptions is anticipated. Substantial computer and/or electronic equipment use is expected. Operation of standard office equipment involves repetitive fine motor-skills. |
