Position Summary
The Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) provides psychiatric evaluations, diagnosis, medication management, and ongoing treatment for children and adolescents experiencing mental health and co-occurring substance use disorders. The PMHNP collaborates with therapists, psychologists, physicians, schools, and families to provide comprehensive, patient-centered care.
Services may be delivered in person, via telehealth, Mobile Unit, or through a hybrid model.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive psychiatric evaluations.
- Diagnose mental health disorders using DSM-5-TR criteria.
- Prescribe, monitor, and manage psychiatric medications.
- Develop individualized treatment plans.
- Provide medication education to patients and families.
- Monitor medication effectiveness and side effects.
- Collaborate with therapists, psychologists, primary care providers, schools, and other community partners.
- Provide crisis intervention and risk assessments.
- Maintain complete and timely medical documentation.
- Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA, Medicaid, CARF, and agency standards.
- Participate in continuing education and maintain professional licensure.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from an accredited program.
Licensure & Certification
- Current Missouri Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Current Missouri Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license.
- Board Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC).
- DEA registration and Missouri controlled substance authority.
Experience
- Minimum of 2–3 years of experience treating children and adolescents with behavioral health disorders.
- Experience with ADHD, anxiety, depression, autism spectrum disorders, trauma, bipolar disorder, and other childhood psychiatric conditions preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong psychiatric diagnostic and medication management skills.
- Knowledge of child and adolescent development.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
- Proficiency with electronic health records and telehealth technology.
